Hello fellow junkers! My name is Damon, I am a maker of everything cool or at least i think it is..I make found object art and i am very influenced by the retro modern vintage scifi style of the futuristic 1920s 30s 40s and 50s, which is what i style my sculptures after. I love making rayguns robots furniture and lamps as they always look so good all lit up in a dark room..the right lamp always sets a great vibe. I am lucky to live very close to 2 slavage scrap yards which i visit everyday they are open and scrounge throught piles of salvaged metal and rusty goodness, you would not believe what gets scraped and it new junk everyday so i never get tired of going there. Always bringing home vintage antique home and garden items..cant seem to let them get crushed and melted and of course i am always at thrift stores which in my town there are plenty. It is great to join this site and thanks for the wonderfull welcome.

Re: my next project..a floor scrubber spaceship..just a quick mockup.

Yea as soon as I saw that floor scrubber at the scrap yard, it just said space ship. I am almost do ne with it, but it has changed a whole bunch since this picture mock up..i ditched the readymade robot for a complete junk robot...hint..drive in movie speaker. So what's this i here you found your own robot?

Damon

Re: benches I have made

Great work! wonderful idea...i see these beds at the scrap yard all the time and wondered what i could do with them, but never thought of your idea. Very clever.

Damon

Re: Candle Sconce

Hey Jim, those turned out great! Very cool design...gotta love insulators, i must have at least 40, but not one glass on in the bunch,They look very vintage.

Re: Miss Galaxy Girl Found Object Sculpture I Made Last Night

Hello Everyone..thanks for all the great comments about miss galaxy, seems she has caused quite a stir. I don't know if i have the heart to sell her yet, she has really grown on me. I think she is one of my top 3 favorites that i have created. Wow and I even got the spotlight feature...thanks Sue, and the whole junk market gang, really glad you like her. Now Georgia...it wasn't me who set her up on the date, it was my other robot, getting back at her as she gave him the cold shoulder and he thought it would be funny to set her up with that big ol shiny lug..lol.

Re: retro space ship propeller table i made last night

Hello leah...thanks for the kind words...sounds like your son has great taste..lol. Glad i could inspire.

Damon

Re: retro space ship propeller table i made last night

Oh for sure can't wait to watch them.,,you would not believe the 16mm home movies i found this summer at the yard..9 reels in cans all from the same family and they were made in the early 30's....they are incredible to watch, I watched them all on a projector from the 30's that i found at the yard about a month before the films and it works perfect. I was already offered $1000 for the films, but i can't part with them yet...I am putting them on dvd soon.

Damon

Re: retro space ship propeller table i made last night

Hello Everyone..thanks for all the great comments and reaction about my table. It came out better than i thought...and i think it was one of the quickest builds i have done so far..about 4 hours build time.
Christy i am in OhiO...so i think it would be a tad to far for scrap shoppin. They just opened a brand new yard down from the my other ones and i went there last friday for the first time and they let me shop..i found 7 vintage 8mm home movies from the 60's that i will be watching this week....all for $1..so that was my first purchase..yahooo! That is such a bummer that they won't let you in yours anymore.

Damon

Re: retro space ship propeller table i made last night

Hello JunkArchitect,,,thanks for the great compliment about the table. Nope i just go to the scrap yard everyday, rain sleet or snow and it was 0 degrees today but i still found some great stuff. The 30's machine age compliment is the best one i could have, as i love that period of style, so i am really glad you said that..thanks!

Damon

Re: "Soilax Bucket" Tool Box Lamp

Great looking lamp..very cool! Is that a cloth cord?

Re: Here is a 6 foot tall robot project made from the best of junk

Re: Here is a 6 foot tall robot project made from the best of junk

Yes ladies i think i might have to go with the patina...Junkforfun....i like your comment about "aged robot" never thought about it like that. Maybe your a bit wiser than me as you came around on the 19th of may 66 and i did not get here till the 27 of may 66... lol.

Damon

Re: Here is a 6 foot tall robot project made from the best of junk

Hmmm..seems like everyone likes the rusty patina..so now i am torn! Yea i can't wait to get him finished..i still don't know what i will use for his lower body yet. Glad everyone likes him.

Re: my next project..a floor scrubber spaceship..just a quick mockup.

Oh what would i do without sweet Georgia moon!

Re: my next project..a floor scrubber spaceship..just a quick mockup.

Heck...all you women have the best idea's...it's hard to find a great bunch of women who think junk is wonderful like i do...this is my home away from home..lol. When i found Sue's book at borders i thought it was sooo cool that there was someone doing this and even had a website for it..so here i am and i plan on sticking around for awhile. I love posting when i get a chance.

Re: Here is a 6 foot tall robot project made from the best of junk

Thanks for all the great comments...i can't wait to get him finished. For some reason i keep seeing him very shinny with that new robot smell. The patina sure would be a lot easier...looking like i just bought him at the robot junkyard. Then i would have to give him a couple dents here and there.

Re: found this vintage coke light up sign at the scrap yard tuesday

Yea, can you believe some one would think that is trash! Well i guess it's a good thing people think that way, otherwise us junkers would have some slim pickin's. I need to clean it up but it's hard to clean things in the winter without my trusty hose outside. Some stuff i drag home is covered in mud from the scrap yard when it's muddy.

Damon

Re: found this the other day.. anyone know what it is?

Yea that makes sense, since there is a metal bowl for the bottom to catch the water...i knew i could count on my fellow junkers.

Re: Arvin is HOT!

Great find! Well i know this junk market guy would have brought it home also. I have the same heater..only yours is a bit nicer..that's funny you said robot as i am turning mine into a robot head. So i think you should keep the robot idea. Dang competition..lol.

Damon

Re: Merry Christmas

Merry christmas Georgia..hope you are having a great holiday in that warm weather of yours..lol.

Re: Vintage Dishes Collection

Great collection! Dig the fiesta stuff...i have a ton of fiesta..my mom gave me all her fiesta from the 40's...and i go to the fiesta outlet at the factory and they have seconds for dirt cheap..there are thousands of pieces to choose from, .you can buy a big platter for $2. I bought a bunch of dark purple last visit.

Re: THANK YOU & my latest salvage yard bonanza!

Wow..that's a great stash of goddies. I just noticed on my post that you said you are on ebay as two girls that gather..I always check out your stuff..even before i found out that was you. crazy like that! You always have some cool stuff for the steam punk people. It's funny as i was selling stuff for steam punk people and thought that you would see my stuff and think i was moving in on you terf...lol.
Have a great christmas.

Damon

Re: dog tags o plenty

Thanks everyone for all the idea's with the tags..not sure what i will be doing with them yet..i was thinking of covering something with them, but who know's with me...my mind is always moving. Damon

Re: a couple finds from monday at the yard

why thank you!

Re: old antique heat grate i picked up this weekend

Gretchen...yes you are correct..i paid about $1 for it as regular steel from the yard is 15 cents a pound. I found some more goodies today at the scrap yard and will be posting them later today. I can't seem to slow down, but when it's a good deal i have to buy it.
I am at the scrap yard monday -friday rain sleet or snow and it never get's old.

Damon

Damon

Re: more finds from Damon's house of junk...found a 5 gallon bucket of water valves handles

Oh yea..i sell most of it.. although it's tough sometimes to get rid of the real cool things i get. but could you imagine if i kept it all. TGTG..I like the wind chime idea alot. I will keep some for me as i want to make a metal flower garden.
See Georgia.. you just had to rub it in with the sandals..lol. And your right sometimes i walk in the yard and it's just laying there calling my name.. so what's a guy to do..but buy it all up.

Damon

Re: New Bathroom Shelf

Cool.. that will be perfect in my bathroom.. just let me know when it's finished so i can pick it up, ha ha... Love that industrial look. The louvers on the side make it!

Georgia.. your the best! Don't worry i can share. Maybe i should quit posting all my finds... don't want to make anyone jealous now..lol. I will trade places with ya..ohio is a real bummer in the winter, if i did not have the scrap yard i would go crazy.

Re: Make-Up Collage Table

Wow..that's a great table you made... I made a round 3 foot tall trash can from cut out fashion mag pics and i still use it to this day and it was made over 6 years ago. I like the process you used, i used the super clear packing tape.
Keep up the good work.

Damon

Re: calling all ladies... here is a sheet metal high heel shoe i made from scrap sheet metal.

Well..i guess it's a guy thing..the higher the better...as we only have to watch you ladies walk in them and not worry about our feet hurting. Ahh..what you ladies go through to make us men happy. Just Gotta say thanks.

Damon

Re: calling all ladies... here is a sheet metal high heel shoe i made from scrap sheet metal.

Guess that's why they call them HIGH heels..can't have a 2 1/2"" heel and call that high lol. Thanks for all your great comments. Would love to check out that northport folk art show..sounds really cool.

Damon

Re: found some aluminum neon sign letters at the scrap yard

Hey there Sue....that's funny cause i was reading your book at borders tonight and it show's a pic of that big w and how you collect them..go figure! Someone has to bring all this junk home, everyone else at the scrap yard thinks i am crazy for buying this stuff...just glad they don't have a clue. Hope your thanksgiving day is a wonderfull one.

Damon

Re: ok now you can call me a gear head

Yea that's crazy... glad you like the bowling ball coat rack. They just opened a new scrapyard down the street from the other two yards ..so i hope it is open to scrounge around in.. it's small but heck you never know what might show up.

Re: lamp and bowling ball coat rack

Not sure what they will bring in price yet...at least $20,000 for a 4 footer..special discounts apply to my new best friends of course..lol. I might have a antique dealer that might buy the whole lot.. i have to keep some of course, way to cool to off them all.

Damon

Re: big ol box of brass watch gears..i guess gears like me.

Yes i think they were meant for me. The letter D was just sitting right on top like you see it..calling out my name. Yea i can use all the good karma i can get! These finds sure help with my other problems at the moment.. so i just keep busy and find find find.

Re: the camera

I like!

Re: A Junkin Pumpkin

Dig the bed springs..nice touch! you sure you weren't sneekin in my stash of goodies... i would say i have about 60 or 70 of them as i tore apart 3 antique beds that showed up at the scrap yard. I have my own section to store stuff there since i go everyday and got to be good friends with the yard guys. Like the valve handle eyes also.. i have a few hundred of those suckers..i should ebay some. Oh the joy of a creative mind.

Damon

Re: A Junkin Pumpkin

Hello Christy..that is to funny that you do the same thing as me. There are 2 local scrap yards within 2 miles from my house and i go everyday. The big one stopped letting us in last summer and i had to do the same, bring stuff in and do a trade off..making sure i did not go over the weight i brought in, But now they are letting me back in again as i am there everyday..maybe it was all the pestering i did..lol... and the smaller yard across the street always lets you scrounge. it never gets boring cause who knows what will show up. rain sleet or snow. I just found a great vintage pinball machine that i want to make a coffee table with it. I will post a pic of it soon. Great to know there are others that get that excited about scrounging in a scrap yard.

Damon

Re: Winter Wonderland & Old Book Display

Hello Eva..great name by the way..very 40's. yea that was quite something to find all those clock gears and parts in one haul..and i only paid $4 for the whole box. I have been collecting old clocks to take the gears out..but i don't have to worry about that now. i will be using some for my metal sculpture and selling off the rest..as you can see i have plenty to go around. The steampunk people love the victorian style art and gears..so off to ebay i will go. Wonderfull website by the way. Glad to have you aboard the junkmarket. Take care.

Damon

Re: big ol box of brass watch gears..i guess gears like me.

Great comment .candy...the gearhead thing is really funny.

Re: Fun little project out of some old gears....

wow..that's a very cool piece..gotta love industrial gears. Thanks for the info about my clock gears. That's the first thing i thought of when i saw them, steampunk and ebay. I just have to figure out how to sell them. As there are a ton of them, maybe in small lots?

Damon

Re: It's a Spinner

Wow..that is great! None of mine have the outside gears cogs like yours. Great idea and even better that it spins. How big is it? Gotta love those gear molds.

Damon

Re: Vintage typewriter turned photo display

Heck..your right down the street from me..well almost.I am in akron. Your more than welcome to check out the molds i just got. I like the typewriter idea. I just picked up 4 old typewriters from the same guy i bought the gear molds from..but i always destroy them for my raygun sculptures as there are so many great pieces inside them. And people love the keys. I have a big old drawer full of old typewriter keys.
Damon

Re: Advice needed for project

Hi Georgia..Great name by the way! just saw you comment on my lamp..I am glad you really like it, i have grown found of it myself. It is being used in an art show at the moment..but everything i make is up for grabs. I sometime have a real hard time selling stuff i make..but that's what i do...make cool things to sell. Oh as for cutting out the center of your tin..the best way is to use a hand grinder with a thin cut off wheel it will cut it perfect and you will have both sections to use. I use one all the time and it is my most used tool. If i still lived in cali i would cut it for you. Don't use tin snips as it will warp it and give it a jagged edge. If it is a real special project send it my way and i would cut it out for you no charge.

Damon

Re: wonderfull good find this week.

Hello again,
Thanks so much for the support and welcome back. Yes i was quite excited about the find and all were found in the same place..an old closed down school and the gym is packed full of stuff that i will be digging through and buying up all kind of stuff. I could not believe it when the oner opened the door to a full gymnasium full of wonderfull junk goodness. I will be selling off a bunch of them and keeping a few for myself for some projects. I hate to sell them at all..but as you can see they take up alot of room..i have 10 of them cleaned and stuck in my living room at the moment. It took 4 truck loads to get them home. Table tops are a great idea. Just in case anyone is wondering..i am infact a guy lol! seems like there are only a very few on this site. But hey all the better for me! Great to hear from you all. Candy i am also in NE ohio..if you are really interested in a couple.
