Kathy Stantz, Junk Heaven , OH, US
member

My name is Kathy, and Im a junkaholic - there, I said it...feeling much better now!

I was born to junk - always begging things from my grandma, and collecting rocks and avon bottles when I was little... I refinished my first piece of furniture when I was 18 - and havent stopped re-doing things since...
My friend, Terri, and I buy old furniture and great vintage junk - and paint, repurpose, etc. - and resell it at some fleamarkets in Ohio, and a few customers in central Ohio - we have a blast - always on the hunt for something! (Would love to quit my day job and do it fulltime!) We take girl trips (or junkets) every summer with two of our bestest friends, and have traveled into Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana - and of course - all over Ohio - one of our most fun trips was the Worlds Longest Yard Sale (250 miles thru Kentucky/Tennessee) four years ago. Next year, were planning on the 200-mile sale in Michigan (see you then, LuAnn!!).

My hubby is fairly understanding of my addiction - but says well never be able to move - too much stuff (I think not!!). My daughter shops my basement when she comes home to visit...(shes her mothers daughter for sure!!).

My personal style is cottage/beachy/shabby chic - with a little of this and that mixed in... I love to garden and am a collector of many things (my friend says if you have three of something its a collection - so...yep, Ive got a few!) Of course my favorite thing to do is hunt for additions to my collections (and pieces of interesting junk to play with) at fleamarkets, garage sales, thrift stores, antique shops - and sometimes its just dropped at my doorstep (friends and neighbors - gotta love em!) I collect pottery (mostly white - Haeger, Hull, etc.), vintage beach stuff - especially beach oil paintings, vintage jewelry, child-size chairs, and lots of other stuff! :)

Love the JunkMarket (aka Junkaholics Anonymous) - a great support group for junkaholics - HOWEVER, were not looking for a cure - just a whole lotta support!! Thanks to Sue for throwing us together.

God Bless!

P.S. Just a thought...

Junkers Creed

This is actually the creed of the postal service, but I think it fits SO perfectly for us junkers...

And neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, nor the winds of change, nor a nation challenged, will stay us from the swift completion of our appointed rounds. Ever.

Aint it the truth??? Have a great day & happy junking!

I love your curbside chairs just like they are - chippy paint is a good thing!! :) I have just a "few" little chairs around my house (one of my weaknesses...) - sitting up on a table or bench, or just sitting pretty here and there in a corner...and always holding a little something!

I like all the ideas, and one other - you could even hang them on the wall as a shelf... My girlfriend has one hanging on her fence and sits a plant on it.

Enjoy your finds!

Kathy

Re: How to Spruce Up Your Porch

It looks great!!

Kathy

Kathy

Re: UPSIDE DOWN HANGING LAMP

grannijo, Love your version!! You did a great job repurposing your light fixture (and great price too!) - it's too funny, but I have a light fixture sitting on my workbench waiting for the perfect piece to top it off (it's brass and really needs to be painted) - the inspiration just keeps going round and round!! :)

Kathy

Re: salvaging old barn more photos

How cool - looks like lots of great material to work with!

Kathy

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - some of our stuff...Part III

OK - I guess I'll "have" to start scheduling at least a small get-together for sure!

1. Candy is scheduled to be our next door neighbor - her first time as a vendor at Springfield - I'm SO excited!! (And, Candy - hope to see you at Scott's...let's talk!)

2. LuAnn - Springfield Extravaganza will be the 3rd weekend of May...

3. Lani - we may need to get some rooms reserved!

4. Jim - it's closer than Minnesota...does that help? :)

5. Suewannabeinkc - yep - we're in Ohio - here's the website: http://www.springfieldantiqueshow.com/

6. I better start putting together a mailing list - and we can start thinking about our little Buckeye JUNK party!

And thanks all for your nice comments about our projects - I've started to work on some new "junk" for our November show (it really never ends...thank goodness!!)

Kathy

P.S. Janis - Terri has collaged for a while, and I just started (I made three new ones over the weekend) - they're so much fun.

Re: Organ Pipe Photo Holders

OK - I know you're shopping at some secret junk hideaway somewhere in the woods of Minnesota - where the heck do ya find stuff like that?? ha ha!! Those are so COOL! And, of course - I love what you did with them (and tie clips to hold the photos...sweet!!!)

Happy Monday to you! And thanks for sharing!!!

Kathy

P.S. Great photos Mom!!! :)

Re: Time to Hit the Sack

Candy - So simple, so cheap, and so stylish - and I do mean all that in a VERY good way!! (Awesome!!)

Kathy

Re: New life for old objects

Great pics! Love the old baby shoes hung in the frame. And I love anything "beachy" - a unique way to display!

Thanks for sharing.

Kathy

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - some of our stuff...Part III

Thanks ladies! Midge - glad you've got your calendar marked - looking forward to your visit! Maybe we'll have to have a bit of a "junk potluck"!

Kim - I bought this old paperweight (empty) at an estate sale - and added the buttons, cut a circle out of a piece of a vinyl wallcovering sample that I got from work, and glued it to the bottom. The paperweights are cool because they magnify the contents. Gretchen gave me the idea of using them and I decided to do buttons in this one - I think she had done some for an occasional sale. Hoping to find more...

Kathy

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - some of our stuff...Part III

Thanks! We have too much fun (if that's possible) with all of our "stuff"!

My fingers are crossed too - hoping for a caravan of members at Springfield in the spring! :) We'll be at the Scott Antique Show in Columbus, Ohio on Thanksgiving weekend - if anyone's nearby!

Hope you're having a great weekend - leaving now to check out a couple garage sales (the season is winding down...darn...!).

Kathy

Thanks for checking out my post and for your comments! You can tell I LOVE this show!

Midge - so glad you'll be coming next year (Candy's coming too, and maybe Sharon, maybe Lani...ok the list is growng...) - we'll definitely have to have a little junk party or something!

Check out my blog for more pictures: www.sylviasdaughter.blogspot.com

Kathy

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - Part II - so much to see and so little time!

Thanks everybody - for coming along to Springfield! I think I could just travel the countryside - reporting from show to show...how cool would that be (and be able to buy a little along the way as well).

First...I agree - the clown is a little creepy (the more I look at him, the more he reminds me of that clown in the Stephen King movie..."It"). But he was unique!!! (thank goodness!)

Janis - as far as prices - this show runs from garage sale finds to fine antiques - but our prices in Ohio (and surrounding states) are definitely lower than other parts of the country (so, it's definitely worth a trip for collectors or people looking to re-sell). And, thanks for the info on the shoe scraper - I can see that...

gailmarie & Jim - the green cabinet was in a friend's booth - I admired it from afar! And, I didn't buy any of the globes, but wish I would have. Sue will be checking in here - so, she'll hear about her twin! :)

Karen - you're welcome - it's always great to see new members with new ideas to share - looking forward to more of your posts!

Anita - hope to see you there next year - the list of Buckeye Junkers is growing! ...and Candy - I'm working on it - the more the merrier!! ;)

...there's one more post to go!

Kathy

P.S. Thanks for the comments about my pic - it was time for a change - my friend said I needed to get rid of the bib overalls - I don't know...I kind of liked them!

Re: "Olive" She's one trashy lady!

Olive is a little sweetie! Very clever and love the hidden jewels too!! :)

Anne - will check your blog! Happy junking trails to you!!

Candy - Don't let Lani see this...she's gonna want it!!! ;)

Anyway...amazing repurpose! It looks wonderful hanging in your foyer (I'm coming up for a visit - gotta see all this great stuff you're collecting - AND I want a tour!).

So, what you gonna do with the rest of them??? (inquiring minds want to know...)

Great save my friend!!

Kathy

Re: Serving up a "light" snack - vintage junk-style!

gailmarie, Joanne & snowyowl...thanks for your comments. I just have too much fun with all this "junk" - but can you really have to much junk fun?? I don't think so! :)

Please check out Laurel's version of the serving dish - actually a few of them - they're awesome! http://www.junkmarketstyle.com/item/16387/de-light-ful-serving-piecesinspired-by-shabby-chick

snowyowl - hoping to see pics of your projects too!

Take care, Kathy

Re: De-Light-ful Serving Pieces...Inspired by Shabby Chick...

Laurel - you really did those serving dishes up right (and I bet the treats WERE tasty as well)! I'm sure you got lots of compliments from your friends too.

My favorite is the one on the silver base - but, they're all so sweet! I love how we inspire each other and then come up with creations that show our own style.

Very nice job! Thanks for sharing!

Kathy

P.S. Now...I want to have a party!!

Re: "REBEL"

I think your little Rebel could be my favorite too! She's definitely got some attitude with her "hands" on her hips - she's just a riot!!

Kathy

Re: "FALL"ing for the Springfield Extravaganza - Part I...

Thanks Sue & Gretchen! I know I'm gonna be dragging you all out here one of these days!!!

Gretchen - we have definitely made the transition into more neutral tones, and more silver/metal pieces - and everybody's liking it (and buying it). It seems like a more aged look - and can fit in with any color someone decorates with.

Sue - just call me "pics-r-us" - I've definitely got 'em!! :)

Take care, Kathy

Re: Candle stick flowers

These are wonderful - great save on the candleholders - and so clever how you've repurposed them!

And of course...you are the queen of jewels & ribbon!! And you wear your crown so well!! :)

Will have to check out chiccottagejunk - thanks!

Kathy

Re: "FALL"ing for the Springfield Extravaganza - Part I...

Thanks all! It was a great weekend, and we had fun setting up our space (except for the late night - had to use a floodlight from one of our "neighbors" so we could finish! We really should have just slept in our truck (it was almost midnight when we finished!).

Sharon - hope to see you there next year (and lots of others too)!

Alice - I checked your blog - love the angels! :)

Candy, ol buddy ol pal - we definitely need to talk!!

texasjunkermom - I'm not sure about the cloche... I looked at some on ebay (great place to get an idea on prices - saw an antique one (16" tall) starting to bid at $49 - and $20 for shipping...) so that price might be a little high if it's a new one??? - anybody else know??

Lani - I'm sure if the Grizzly would have gone shopping - he'd get be able to deal on some great prices!! And be able to carry heavy furniture too...a junk hunk!! :) (Lani - I'm all for a get-together!!)

Janis - thanks about the pic - I thought I needed something new - it may change again - not sure...haha!

Have a great week!! (and stay tuned for Part II)

Kathy

Re: My Simple Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday Project!

OK Lani dear...your "simple" tables and their style are over the top cool!! Not sure which is my favorite - oh heck...I think I love them all the same!

The little table rise is super cute! And, what a great repurpose for that chandelier - it makes an awesome table! And, yes the chimney cap is probably the icing on your simple project "cake"!!!

Loving it all, my friend!

Kathy

Re: Serving up a "light" snack - vintage junk-style!

OK...you're all gonna make me blush! :) Thanks for your comments - ya just gotta love those super simple projects that put on a great show AND have a purpose in their new life as well!!

The junk potluck was a huge success (and so was the blog party) - thanks and congrats to Amy & Co. for all their hard work! And thanks for bringing us all together - everytime I look at the pics...there's a new memory...

Just a note...In your search for lamp bases, be sure to pick something that will hold up to the weight of your light fixture - you don't want it to be top heavy. These two pieces were surprisingly well balanced in weight and size. And, if a finial won't hold it together...I bet a little Gorilla Glue would do the trick, and then place something decorative over the hole to cover it up.

Take care, Kathy

Re: Just another trash day in the neighborhood

Re: Freeby :-)

My vote is coming in late, but I also vote for painting (and distressing). And, I think a marriage of pieces would make it spectacular.

I could also picture it as a potting table (with a window and some architectural pieces attached for shelving...) - and the drawers would provide great storage for tools, pots, etc... One of the large drawers could be pulled out and the space used as a shelf - to display pots, garden junk, etc...

Or, a drawer or two could be pulled out (for components to fit in), and it could be used as an entertainment center.

OK - stopping now - let us know what you come up with - can't wait to see pics!

Kathy

P.S. Don't ya just love "free"? :)

Re: Oronoco Stories...what happened in Oronoco stays...

P.S. The whole camping experience couldn't have been any more perfect...Thanks!!! (and hugs all around...) :)

Re: Oronoco Stories...what happened in Oronoco stays...

Well, all I can say is - and being very truthful...THE PFARKEL SISTERS SAVED OUR SORRY CAMPER BEHINDS - seriously! (I guess you could say we were just a tad "high maintenance" being the "experienced" campers we are...ha ha). I really think we had just one thing on our minds when we set out that morning (a bit behind our anticipated 7:00am departure time...wink wink) - and it was nothing but JUNKING! But - at least we remembered the tent and sleeping bags!

Setting up the tent was big fun - and I believe there is a photo circulating (thanks to our dear "tweet" Candy) that refers to how many JMS girls, Pfarkel sisters AND Tomboy Tool gal does it take to set up a tent? You don't want to know...

The Pfarkels are amazing - SO much fun...and we even got a peek inside the big camper - love the flamingos ladies!!

Note to my fellow JMS contributors...Next year we'll be alongside the Pfarkels in our "Airstream"! :)

Hugs from Ohio! Kathy

I loved those light fixtures too - I think it would look so cool out on a porch or patio (or an entry, etc., etc...)...what great lighting!!

And the gas pump front...well - I bet we see more of those photo opps (or oops!)!

You're right, it is definitely an awesome thing to see young junkers out there buying AND selling...great junk never grows old! (That doesn't mean we're considered old junkers does it??? I didn't think so!)

Thanks for sharing the pics Sue... We're looking forward to another camping trip (maybe Candy can "borrow" the Airstream!)...

Re: What to get for the junker who has (almost) everything??? It's a "challenge" that's for sure!

Lani & Janis - this is even more fun than I thought! Junk is just fun anyway - and sharing it is a hoot!! (seems like Sue thinks so too...so far!)

Janis - you may visit and play in the basement anytime...I won't even bother to clean it up...! :)

Lani - I'm narrowing my junk pile down for Sue...(we've got a little bit of camping gear to bring too!)

Take care! Kathy

Re: A challenge -- Trash to Treasure Charity Auction

I will be at Amy's blog party (at Oronoco Gold Rush Days) - and would love to donate my piece that I made for the "junk" potluck!

See you there! Kathy

Re: Chalk Liner Wreath

Sue - this is awesome - looks beautiful hanging on your door! (and good idea on the "illusion" of hanging)

What a great gift from Miss Georgia!

Love the re-use of the panty hose...!!

Kathy

P.S. I have a feeling that any "thank-you" cards we receive (for these awesome gifts) - will be accompanied by a challenge befitting these acts of "generosity"!

Re: Sneak Peek and Guess Your Best

I guess I could go with Jim's hint and say I bet it's one of those thingies that puts lines down on a football field (or some kind of field...) - but just for fun - let's say it's a hand-operated snow making machine...(And you know you could use one of those in Minne-snowta!!)

Anyway...Sue - you've got some great stuff to work with - and the umbrella may be a challenge - so, if you need help - we'll be there next week for some brainstorming! :)

See ya, Kathy

Re: ROCK-A-BYE BABY!!

Janis - what a sweet little flower bed you created! Can't wait to see it in full bloom!

Love it!

Kathy

P.S. How did your sale go???

Kathy

Re: Circuit Breaker Box Clock

Jenny - Oh man...not a "shock" to me - or anyone else I'm sure...it's another AWESOME clock - love the bit of rustiness & vintagey green - and the pieces and parts you put together!

And, when you want to lose track of time -just shut the door! Sweet!!!!

Kathy

Re: Any Ideas ?? I'm stumped!

Suzie7 - first...welcome to JUNKMARKET Style! You'll find lots of ideas here for sure...our junker brains don't ever seem to rest! :)

Second...what an awesome piece of furniture. For placement, it looks like it could sit on the floor, hang on the wall, or maybe sit up on a cabinet or table (like a small farmhouse table...).

As far as what to put in it...like others have said it could be functional - in the kitchen or a craft area (that's where it would be in my house...ha ha) to organize. And, like audlyenuf said - boxes or baskets with labels or tags so you don't forget what you've organized - for me, if it's out of sight...it's definitely out of mind.

I think a mix of a collection of things would be cool - seashells, bottles, and just random old stuff - not necessarily in every cubby - that would keep it to a less cluttered look.

It'd be great in a child's room too - they'd have lots of "little things" to stow away. And, how cool would it be in an entry??? Anyway, I got a little carried away - it IS just such an awesome piece! Hoping to see pics of what you do with it!!

Kathy

Re: CAN YOU FIND THE LIGHTSWITCH?????

Re: What to get for the junker who has (almost) everything??? It's a "challenge" that's for sure!

gailmarie - Can't wait to see what you make with the strainer (I have the stand and the wooden thingie that goes with it...) - hope you didn't get "junk overload" looking at all my stuff... :)

Kenda - you're definitely not the only one with lots of junk (it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one too!!).

Sue - I knew you couldn't keep your eyes off this post...! You only have to wait two more weeks (from today)! :)

LadyCatherine (love your name!) - What a great story about your typewriter - thanks for sharing.

Fjerda - Are you going to be at Oronoco? I might be able to bring a little something for the auction(if we have room in the van)...

Take care all! And thanks for sharing in the fun!

Kathy

Re: A good junk find

Alice...great finds! I love the red can caddy - that'll be fun to use! And metal stools are one of my favorite things!

gailmarie- I know what you mean - I went to a sale last week that was advertised as a neighborhood sale (and you know how excited we get when we see those kinds of sales - LOL)...well, the neighborhood must have put all their stuff at one house - that's all there was! But fortunately...there is enough good junk out there...that a little misadvertisement doesn't stop us, does it??? On to the next sale...and the next...! :)

Thanks for sharing, Alice!!

Kathy

Re: What to get for the junker who has (almost) everything??? It's a "challenge" that's for sure!

Thanks you guys! Making the appropopriate "selections" is proving to be a real challenge for me...too much to pick from??...I think that would be a "yes"! But, I've got a couple things in a box (Candy, I promise we won't have to strap anything to the top of your van!!!).

And, Candy...way too funny - I see lots of laughing going on during our road trip (hope we don't miss any exits...).

Jim...the round thing would make a great lamp!! - and if anyone could do it...well - I don't need to say who that might be! :)

alicemom - Terri and I will be at the Springfield Extravaganza in September - but I probably won't be having another garage sale till next year.

Kimberly - I really need to learn to part with more of my junk (or get really busy and work on my projects...yep - that would be the best choice - time to get to work/play! :)

Kathy

P.S. For more of my thoughts on Sue's challenge - you can check out my blog... www.sylviasdaughter.blogspot.com - some clues...oh yeah! :)

Sue...it looks like you'll be making room for lots more great junk, right?? (oh, yeah..and for some guests as well??!)

I love all your individual "departments" - I did the same thing at my garage sale (I didn't have "quite" as much cool junk as you, but did the best with the junk that I had - ha ha) - and people came in and made comments about how they felt like they were walking into a store - just can't stop, can we??)

Wishing you lots of junk success!!!

Kathy

P.S. Candy and I will have to check out any "leftovers"! :)

I know Sue has fun planned for us (there's an itinerary :) - but no where on there does it actually say "sleep" - for sure not in a campground, right Lani?? :)

Re: Projects from the Pages of a Book

Well...Sue! This is all just sweeter than Candy...! :)

I love the luggage tags (it's a name tag AND a napkin ring - very fashioinably cool), the vase (reminds me of my Doris Day carafe), and the cartoon "wrapping" paper...it's ALL just fun!

Books can definitely provide some great material to work with. All of your projects are just so clever - and of course the dialogue and photos are too entertaining!

You've done it again!

Kathy

Re: Sometimes it's ok to break a dish (or two)...

Stellaluna,

Here are some thoughts (I'm sure others have some tips too - please share!!! We can all use a little help from our friends!!)

Breaking: I put my plate, tile, etc.. in a box wrapped in a towel (so, in breaking, pieces don’t fly…). (And, check it each time you hit it - to maybe pull out pieces that are the size you want...). If you want the piece/design to stay intact, (before breaking) I’d cover the back side with masking or duct tape to hold the pieces together, so you’re not trying to figure out what goes where…(or even take a picture of it before breaking). (Be sure to wear safety glasses when breaking and/or using tile snips.)

Some basic supplies:

Gloves (use when breaking glass)
Safety glasses (use when breaking glass)
Hammer
-Tile snips (for plates or tile) (can be used to cut in more uniform pieces – try this on a practice piece to see how it works. I cover the piece with a cloth while I'm cutting it.)
-Tile adhesive (to put the pieces in place prior to grouting)
-Tile grout (sanded) (this can also be used as the adhesive instead of tile adhesive)
-Grout sealant (optional)
-File (to file down sharp edges – if necessary)

Tips:

You can lay your pieces out on the tabletop (or whatever surface you choose), and use the grout and/or adhesive to stick pieces in place…allow to dry, and then start filling spaces with grout.

After applying grout, be sure to wipe tile/pieces with a damp cloth before grout dries on surface (follow directions on container).

If you’re doing a bowling ball – be sure to clean the surface well (to get rid of oil from the bowling alley – if it was in the gutter a lot – like mine is...there will be more oil on the surface - haha) – I use soap and water, and then rubbing alcohol - you could even sand it a bit.

To work on it, I place it on a stand of some sort (I have a metal candle stand that I use - for a large candle.) – this will help hold it in place. I also put a towel over the stand (provides a bit of a cushion for it to rest on – it helps protect the pieces that you’ve already adhered to the surface as you turn it.). Allow an area to dry well (I let mine sit overnight) – and then you can move it to begin on a new area. This process takes a few days – if you move it too soon, pieces will slide and/or fall off. (Again, be sure to clean the grout off the surface of your tiles with a damp cloth after its “set up” a bit.)

Good luck with your mosaic - hope to see it in a future post!

Kathy

Re: Sometimes it's ok to break a dish (or two)...

Thanks for your comments!

Jim - if you send broken plates, no need to mark the package "fragile" - the damage has already been done, right? :)

Janis...I wish you were going to be there too!!! We'll work it out one of these days (promise!!)

Thanks LuAnn - I'm thrilled to be a part of this very talented group!

Gretchen - I'm looking forward to seeing your "beach" ball!!

Take care all!

Kathy

Re: Editor's Challenge

See Sue - there's nothing to be nervous about, because of all the people I know - I'm positive that you're up to about any junk challenge thrown at you (don't take that literally)... I just know everyone will be ever so kind and thoughtful in their junk selections - only the best for you - promise!! ;)

I also know that in the future, I will be very careful about suggestions I make - because the old saying of "what goes around comes around" is a very true statement - especially when you're talking junk!

Kathy

P.S. I'll be delivering mine in a van!

Re: Welcome to my cottage......maybe

Midge, Midge, Midge - I love your inner tube welcome wreath/message board creation! It's just too much fun, and I love how you can change it out for different messages - very ingenius my friend!! (And for the fisherman...don't forget "gone fishing") I should do one of these for my deck.

Re: How To Resize Photos

Candy - great tips my friend! Re-sizing took me a while to figure out. I use Photoshop Elements, and it's pretty simple. Also, haven't used the setting on my camera - but I know it's there - will have to see how that works too.

On my blog I don't seem to be able to upload pictures that can be clicked on and enlarged...not sure what I'm doing (and/or not doing) there...just part of my learning curve! :)

Good luck all - and can't wait to see your pics/posts!!

Congrats and keep up the good work.

Kathy

P.S. Christy...I know what you mean...finished is a wonderful word - and isn't used enough for my liking (at my house) either! :)

Re: Pyrex Trays - Take One

Sue - great project! And you didn't have to try to drill through the glass - when I first saw the picture I thought that's what you had done - thank goodness for Gorilla Glue, right??

Another wonderful/creative addition to your party "line" of projects... :)

Bravo!

Re: Needing advice

Hi Tabitha, and welcome to JunkMarket Style!

Will the trunk be in a protected area like a porch or deck? I might just line it with some kind of vinyl or plastic (maybe a vinyl tablecloth with a print to it, or at least a color that's better than black plastic) - you should be able to staple it in place, and then put some different containers of plants in the trunk - then you could easily water or change the plants, move the trunk, etc... If you have a few small containers you could set a small table or stand inside and arrange your planters around it (for some heighth).

That's a great piece for "planting"! Good luck and please share the finished project!

Take care, Kathy

Re: How to Re-Purpose a Scale

Sue - looks like I'm the first to "weigh in"! I love that you used the scale for a much more fun and functional use than that "other" use! It looks great in your bathroom and makes everything so convenient to get to. (And, love the color combo...pink, black, white, and the perfect little touch of "rust"!.)

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Clean-up that Yard With a Little Junk!

Lani - Your garden junk is all absolutely wonderfully fabulous!! From your beautiful front porch - the park bench, fan collection (very cool), chairs, etc.... to all your great containers for your planters - it's breathtaking!

You DO have such a knack for putting things together - and like Janis said - it should be in a magazine!

Thanks for sharing, and I'll defnitely have to check out your blog for more pics!

Re: The Rusty Gardener

Thanks for visiting my garden and your comments too! It's so great to have an audience that understands how great junk works in a garden/yard/porch...etc. I'm not sure if all my neighbors do! LOL :)

Bucky is certainly a conversation piece - he isn't allowed in the pool though...too many sharp edges...I guess you could say he's a "fish out of water"...(sorry).

Sue - You won't believe it but I found another scooter this past weekend (exactly the same - just not faded - it's a nice vintage red - should I hold it for you??).

Dana - I'm sure there are quite a few husbands who think we're a bit nuts (mine is one of them, but he's used to me).

RustyDiva - Can't wait to see your pics!!

Gretchen - the rusty, bluish planter is my favorite. I've got some little glass-topped sidetables that match too.

Thanks again everybody - and if you want to see the rest...be sure to check my blog (yep, there's more!!) :)

Great job!

Kathy

P.S. I've heard those comments before (or gotten the look when I leave the thrift store with a piece of "junk")...but, those people should see the finished product, right?? :) They'd be amazed!

Re: My lunchtime menu: JUNK!

Thanks for the comments everybody! It looks like we're all open to a little lunchtime junking! :) I hit the thrift stores once a week too (at lunchtime).

Gretchen - We'd have to share the "S" spoons - you could have one and I'll take one! :)

And, Jim - yep - it's a sickness - with no known cure (thankfully) LOL!

I went to some sales on Friday (on the way back from an out of town furniture delivery..and we found almost nothing...go figure!), and then on Saturday - found a van load (a neighborhood sale - love those!). So, our junking definitely has its off days - but plenty of good ones to make up for it!

Take care, Kathy

Re: Hey Mr. DJ . . .

Lani - what a wonderful tribute to your Dad! I'm sure you make him very proud!! The wall piece you created is so unique and very cool. It goes so well with your microphone collection (love those!!)

Kathy

Re: My lunchtime menu: JUNK!

Glad you're all enjoying your virtual trip on my little lunchtime "junket"! There was definitely plenty of stuff to go around (and around)...

RustyDiva - My personal choice for a career would definitely be a personal junk shopper (where should I send my resume?) :) ---- I could do this every day! (Does that sound extreme?? Nah - you guys understand!)

Geo - the wooden file cabinet was very cool...and it was a steal! And you're right about hidden treasure, there were boxes stacked under the tables that you couldn't even get to (so, I may have to go back Saturday when things have thinned out a bit!).

Hey LuAnn...I told you it was great stuff! :)

There is definitely great junk in Ohio! (and I mean that in a very positive way!) ha ha

Kathy

The old baby shoes are cute - might have to get my daughter's out and do something fun with them!

Beautiful, my friend!!

Kathy

Re: Rusty Old Wheelbarrow Planter

Jim - what a great deal! All you had to do was add the flowers - it looks great!

My neighbor was going to take one to the dump (like yours...rusty, with holes, etc...) - but, he knew I was a "bit" of a junk collector - and asked me if I wanted it (of course "yes" was my answer) - it now resides in my garden filled with flowers too!

It's so nice of someone else to age these pieces so we can enjoy them in their repurposed life!!

Sue, what a very "smart" redo of Elizabeth's study nook (and you did it while she was gone - what a great surprise!!) Love the colors too - and the vintage barber dish is very cool!

I had big fun helping my daughter decorate when she went away to college (I know about the moving away thing...sometimes a sore subject with us Moms...) - but after graduation she moved to the east coast (smaller space)...now I've got a lot of it in my basement "in storage"! ha ha

Geo - we would have a blast, I'm sure!!! (Candy...you too!)

Candy, every time I see metal letters, I'm looking for an "A"! :) (how many do you want??) ha ha

Jim, I laughed out loud when I read your comment about the couch...I put the green monkey there! :) (It was a good contrast...well, maybe not such a contrast, they were both pretty ugly!)

Claudia - we just can't seem to pass up a thrift store...even if we're totally exhausted! (It's a sickness!!) :)

If you want to see more great pics...I put a bunch more "junk" on my blog. (www.sylviasdaughter.blogspot.com)

Suze...will do a little research...stay tuned!

Re: JMS Returns to The Today Show

Sue - Congrats! Would love to be one of those people holding a sign in the background (maybe I'll make my daughter get up early that day and do it for me!!). I'm thinking a coast-to-coast garage sale tour is in order (how fun would that be - we have a trailer we could fill!!) - or maybe the Partridge Family would loan us their bus!

My DVR will be set for sure!

Kathy

P.S. Got some great stuff while garage "hopping" (as my father-in-law calls it) yesterday. This is my favorite time of year!

Re: How to Spiff Up the Biff

OldBarnRescue...It's fun how a creation takes on a personality, and a name to go along with it just adds to the charm.

My friend Terri and I have named some of the tools in our workshop...we have a tiny ball-peen hammer that we named "Bertha", our cordless drill is "Raquel"...and we have a mannequin bust that we named "Marilyn" that we display jackets on...silly girl stuff, I guess! :)

Kathy

Whew...made it back! And you've all said such nice things (thank you!)...I really have a blast here, and am SO happy to be included in such a talented bunch of junkers! So, will do my best to provide a bit of junk and entertainment too!!

We had an awesome weekend (sold almost everything) - just a little weather issue - a "bit" of wind late Saturday afternoon - I'll just say it involved human tent weights...(but more about that later)...and no...I didn't get a picture of that - my hands were full! ha ha).

Will be sharing the weekend soon - got some very fun pictures!

Sue & Co...would really love to see everyone there in September! There's plenty of great junk to go around (for a few days...)!

Kathy

Re: EXTRA, EXTRA...it's the Springfield EXTRAvaganza!!

I wish you all could be there with us - it would be HUGE fun!!! A great place for a junkmarket event...! :)

I've been getting my things around tonite (and trying not to pack too many shoes...that's always an issue...not sure why...) - and packing my projects away safely - time to get some rest...tomorrow's a long day (but, in a good way).

Geo...a "classified" section...cool idea!

Will talk to ya soon!

Re: A lamp is a lamp, is a lamp...again!

Thanks everybody - so glad you all like it! I just love it too - and I'm sure it will sell right away this weekend.

I would normally grab a can of spray paint, but this color was already perfect - and very 70s...and who doesn't love flowers??

I really think it was meant to be a hanging light too...guess it's been waiting for me to rescue it! :)

Re: How to Spiff Up the Biff

Sue - Bart looks quite content in his new surroundings...considering it's the bathroom - ha ha!! So, it looks like his new profession is bathroom butler - offering you a handtowel when needed! Too cute!

He definitely is a piece that brings a smile!

Thanks for sharing!

Kathy

P.S. My friend and I name things too...tools in our workshop, etc... we have the tiniest little hammer that we painted robin's egg blue and named "bertha"...too much fun!

Hope your day was fun too!

Re: A junking weekend - on the road to Kentucky...(Part 2)

Janis...with all that junk...the fun just had to follow, right??? :) Wish we could all take one big junking trip - wouldn't that be HUGE fun???

Christy - and the great part is that it doesn't need to have water added (well, unless you wanted to add to the rustiness)!

Eva - the photo of the fence doesn't really do it justice, but I tried!

Thanks ladies!

Kathy

Re: Fun & Unique Jewelry Displays by Gretchen

Gretchen! You've put it all together so perfectly (with a splash of "junk" with your beautiful "bling')! I love the claw foot...rusty patina and all...who would have thought it'd go so well with your beautiful jewelry (us junkers, right??) - cuz we get it!

Very creative display, and I also love how you "slipcovered" the modern display piece with burlap!

Thanks for sharing!

Kathy

Re: How to Dress up a Dinner Party

Sue - you've done it again!!! Love the look - great colors, so fun and welcoming (and I noticed the "K"...so, yes, I'll accept! :). The cuff on the bottle is ingenious, and I can picture you going through pickle jars at the store...too funny! (Remember, they probably have cameras...it makes for good entertainment I'm sure.)

I think it's going to be crowded at your table...!

Kathy

And, your mirrors are so sweet - such an elegant touch - I can picture a wall done in mirrors with these mixed in for a bit of bling!

And, the water globe was a great find! Tres chic!

Re: My Texas-sized Junk Swap Package!

AtticusFinch - thanks so much for the background on my two little angels - on the back of the larger one it says "sunflower angel" - special edition - 1996; the little one is holding a heart and is stamped 1986. They're very sweet.

Thanks Eileen & Gretchen - Bridget really outdid herself! :)

OK Sue...it's on my "to do" list!!

Kathy

Re: The French Flea Occassional Market Place

So happy it went SO well for you guys - just knew it would! Tomorrow should just be the icing on the cake! :)

Would love to be able to come to a junkmarket event! And a sleep over? Big fun!

Get some rest girls!!

Kathy

Re: Junk Chime

Candy - the chime is so sweet! I bet the girls had fun milking a cow. I got to do that years ago at my aunt's farm...but, I gotta say...once was enough for me! LOL

Have a great weekend!

Kathy

Re: Greetings from Project Land

Geo...what great stuff! It looks like you've been working like a crazy woman (that's what we do, isn't it??). I love the fence light - I've got some fencing in my basement just waiting to be converted into one of these. And, I love all those green crystals!!!! I know your show is going to be a huge success!

Thanks for sharing - and can't wait to see pics of your space.

Kathy

P.S. About the conservatory - really nicely decorated...just think of this one as "baby steps"...you'll build one of your own and it'll be fabulous!

Re: My Texas-sized Junk Swap Package!

This is my third swap - it's so much fun - the giving and receiving!! And another way to get to know fellow junkers...

There's one every few months or so - so, Rachel will probably put out a post to let people know when the next one will be.

Bridget's package was really amazing - and I'll be enjoying my gifts for quite a while. It was definitely like Christmas...

Merry junking, Kathy :)
