I still remember my first time - I tagged along with a friend to a country auction two decades ago. A few hours and a small car load later, I was hooked. I love auctions, flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores - any place discarded or previously loved treasures can be found and recycled.

An early Sunday morning jaunt to the local antique market with my Mom (who is my sidekick in my junking adventures), lots of coffee, an empty trunk and the anticipation of what treasures will be found is heaven to me.

My current obsession now is making birdfeeders, birdbaths, plant stakes and other garden art from vintage china and salvage stuff. I sell on Etsy, at a few local shops and shows, but really do it for fun. I love seeing what fellow junkers projects - the creativity of others inspires me.

Re: Recycled Vintage China Birdfeeders

In response to a question about how these stand up, I drill a hole in the bottom and put a 6 inch metal stake in the bottom, so that they are easy to pull up and move or dump the water out of the bird seed. This allows the spindel to remain above ground.

Re: Great Finds at Garage Sales and Upcoming Projects

Thanks. I live in central Illinois - this was a great haul, it's not always that good. I happened to find a women who was cleaning out her garage, which was full of salvage and vintage items - we had the same tastes - lucky for me. And, I got all the crown molding and the two windows for $5. I know, I was so excited....
