Finally Got Those Skis Done!
I finally came up with a way to preserve and display my father's skis. It took multiple coats of polyurethane to bring them back to life after having spent about 60 years in an outbuilding on...
Vintage Skis
My father gave me these skis today. He received them 60 years ago as a child. I need to know what I can use to restore the wood safely. Also, any ideas on how to display them on a...

What a fantastic Valentine! Love the lettering and your signature distressed finish ... Brought back memories of our Valentine's Day celebration in the one-room schoolhouse I attended ... all those shoeboxes carefully decorated and filled with valentine's cards. Can't wait to see your next project!

Love the collars Georgia! Looks like Ollie and Christy should get together ... both love the camera don't they ... I don't know about you, but the "picture taking" was more difficult than putting the collar together! Happy Holidays!

Thanks for all the nice comments and suggestions! I didn't think about using magnetic letters on the screen before but I'm going to try that idea with some vintage letters I have on hand. As always, thanks to everyone for the inspiration!

I really love that armoire! My husband already has a Firestone sign very similar to yours so I told him the armoire is next! The vintage tree stand turned candleholder is a great idea, too. Look forward to seeing more of your creations. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Vintage Skis
Thank you for all of the tips on how to fix up these skis. I decided to just try a satin poly on them which really brought out the grain and color of the wood (after 4 coats however) ... now I just have to figure out where to hang them up ... will post a picture when I get that accomplished.

Re: Vintage Skis
Thank you very much for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of using them as shelves, but that's a neat idea ... I'm going to look into the Skidmore wood products that Sue and Ki have mentioned in their other projects but I'm thinking just a coat of poly should do the trick because after all these years, they seem to have retained most of their color. Will post a picture once I'm finished!

I'm glad you like the photo holder ... it's actually an old loom my greatgrandmother used to weave rugs on. It doesn't show up in the picture, but on the very left side is a small portion of a rug she was working on and never completed. I didn't want it stored away, which it had been for many, many years, and thought this might be a way to enjoy it. Thanks for the comments and thanks for all of the inspiration each of you provide!

Re: Fab Finds at the Flea
You found some great things! The Oronoco weather was much better this year than last. It was great to meet you on Friday. I'm busy working on projects with the two "treasures" I found ... a buggy wheel (to become a wreath on an old farm door) and a bird cage which will (hopefully) become a hanging lamp ... straight out of Junk Beautiful! Thanks for all the inspiration!
