Im a junker from way back. I am particularly fond of smaller junk items. These are my favorite pass times gardening, tea parties, and light murder mysteries but junking is the best. I work full time but still find time to do as much junking as I can. JH helps alot too!

Welcome.

Re: 650 Mile Garage Sales Pictures

Sounds like you had a good time. If you can post pics of what you picked up. It's always exciting to see what others pick up. SO show us your stuff!!

JH and I are heading to the Michigan version of the 650 sale. We're geeked--making our game plan--what to look for--what route to take--and even down to what food/drinks are coming with us. I'm taking a four pack of wine (1 glass per bottle--not 4 large bottles)LOL. The best part is this sale goes along the "thumb" road way which is right on the water--lots of scenery.

LuAnn

LuAnn

Re: Is anyone going to the 650 mile garage sale this week?

Well I can't make the 650 miles of sales (ohh la la) but will be done the Michigan Yard Sale Trail-200 miles along the beautiful scenic road around the "thumb" area. This is JH and my 3rd year. Each year we traveled around using different starting and stopping points. This year we will be starting in Caseville. We will arrive on Thursday (which happens to be in the middle of their "cheesebuger festival"!!). Heading out Friday and driving and shopping til we drop. This is loads of fun and the scenery is great!! Hope to find lots of stuff!!

Our best fun is Christmas Eve (family tradition from way back from who knows when). There's never a harsh word just tons of laughter and a spontaneous paperball fight after the gift exchange. I'm thankful for our families--which is getting bigger each year. And very thankful for each day Mom is still here and laughing with us.

Not quite sure where the wooden piece came from--but it looks like a fan but because I found it at a farm who knows--it was covered with hay??? As for the osage oranges/hedgeapples--you can check out the site about them at www.hedgeapple.com. Lots of information.

LuAnn

Re: Weekend Finds

Cindy:

No it's not snowing. Got real dark for a while, poured and now the sun's out! go figue. Will post pics when I get some projects done.

LuAnn

Re: Junk Journal

Ditto--way cool. Have been thinking about a journal lately for the same reason but never really got around to it since I couldn't find one I liked. Well Duh--make my own. Thanks for the inspiration. Keep it up.

LuAnn

Re: Junk Pockets

What an organizing idea. The skies the limit when it come to outside decorating. Will have to try this for all the junk ideas I've ripped out of magazines.

LuAnn

Re: A Mini Holiday Project

Georgia:

Never thought of painting these (even in the garden). These are great. Here's a shortcut for making the labels (the secretary in me)--there are self stick labels out there that can be used to type all your holiday words on at once, print and then place on the stakes. Saves from using glue--just a thought.

LuAnn

Re: Trash Barn - Searsport, ME

How could anyone not want this as their favorite place. Too cool for words. Don't have anything like that here (Michigan) that I know of--too bad.

LuAnn

Re: Another Conservatory

I suppose you could make these smaller if you could find windows that size. If not, try a hand at making some out of larger picture frames (hay not a bad idea if I do say so myself--may have to try that).

LuAnn

Re: More Mashers!!

These too are charming. Love the santa's.

LuAnn

Re: Angels, Angels and more Angels...

Sharon--these are just charming. Such talent! If you're ever this way stop by I'd like to see them in person.

LuAnn

Re: Needlepunch Designs added to washboards for display.

These are just great. I've checked out your blog--great projects. Keep them coming.

Welcome!

LuAnn

Re: Another Conservatory

I'm sure you'll come up with something great. There is no wrong way to make these. I think pickets for the top would look cool. It will let in the sun, rain (necessary if you put plants in) and air. Some of these conservatories can get real warm inside if there is no circulation! I'll post pics when she has it done (which she told me won't be till the spring). She too is quite talented with putting together a room, a garden, and justa about anything else. Talk soon.

LuAnn

Re: My Rag Dolls

Love your dolls. I remember having a raggedy ann when I was a kid. Thanks for the memories!

Welcome!

LuAnn

Re: Floral of the Month - Rustic Elegance

Welcome again--enjoy!

LuAnn

Re: Witch Potato Mashers

Sharon:

Thanks for the scoop on how to make these. Will have to try these as I have a multitude of mashers. And YES it's getting colder up here. Doesn't seem too bad if the sun's shining. Talk soon

Re: Glass Conservatory-By Request

Thanks everyone for the kind words. They are truly appreciated.

I can't really bring this in the house--no room on main level and won't fit up the stair case. I plan on putting my garden art and planters in there this winter BUT in the spring comes the big plans of putting plants on the top shelf and not sure about the bottom shelf yet. Still trying to think of ideas to decorate--(i.e. chandilier or other light source; door knob, outside decorations). Thanks for the idea of using a wheeled art to move this around--could come in handy when changing the look of my back deck.

Thanks again!!

LuAnn

Re: Here's Another "Guess What It's Made From!"

Ok now you've got me stumped. Maybe a child's ball?

LuAnn

Re: Glass Conservatory-By Request

Glad I could help. Can't wait to see yours. Mine is heavy also. It took my nephew and the JH just to bring it around back and up to the deck. Good luck.

LuAnn

Re: Glass Conservatory-By Request

I could move this in but it's rather bulky and hard to maneuver but it is an idea.

LuAnn

PS Thanks for all the good comments

Re: Sunday Swap meet

Hay friend: These finds are just great. I guess things always change so if you want to change your stye it gives you more chances to go SHOP TIL YOU DROP.

Went to an ES yesterday where I found that "funky" tray thing. The first item up for bids was a typewriter (had to be one of the first ever made) and I was speechless as to the final cost-$4250.00!!!! At least the rest of the sale wasn't quite that high.

See you at 5:00!! A glass of wine will be waiting for you.

LuAnn

Re: Falloween Porch

5:00 is dinner time so what would like to go with those laughs?

Haven't named my scarecrow yet. How about Zeek to go with Zoe and Zelda?

Re: Mosaic table top

LuAnn

PS welcome to the best website around. Such nice folks and never a mean word just lots of good comments and support.

Re: Autumn Luminary

Cool project. Now have an idea for the old sap buckets I've got lying around.

LuAnn

Re: Happy Falloween to All

Sue:

I must say you have certainly out done yourself on this one. It is so inviting your guests may never want to leave. Your idea about doing the porch in sections is great; otherwise it can be overwhelming. We all know what happens when you're overwhelmed--nothing!! Can't wait to get started on my own. Going shopping in the basement, garage, shed and neighborhood fields. Will post when done. There will be a surprise--my "junk swap" gift--too cool for words.

Good luck at your sale.

Talk soon my friend.

LuAnn

Re: White Cupboard Updated

Cynthia:

No they're not big graters just regular size. Maybe it's the reflection in the mirror that makes it look bigger.

Gladly send you some rain--we are now under a flood watch.

LuAnn

Re: Halloween Trivets/Coasters

Very Clever!!

LuAnn

Re: Another Cheese Grater

OK another good use. There is never an end to repurposing!

As you know I was at Utica Antique Market Saturday and saw about a half dozen of these. The only problem was they were too much $$$$ so I passed them by. Guess I should look for more.

Talk soon friend.

Great job!!!

LuAnn

Re: Vintage Bird Cage Light Fixture

Good job. I also like your photo holder.

LuAnn

Re: Cruising & Junking on a Saturday Afternoon...

Kathy:

Sounds like you had a great time. Aren't sales worth the getting lost for. I had 2 sets of those old laundry tubs. I sold one this summer at my sale. The other has a removable lid. I use it during the summer as a bar table and as storage in the winter. One year I did put large pots of flowers in each side and it looked great--for future reference.

LuAnn

Re: A Girly Gift Idea

What teenage girl would not want this?? This is completely cool! I bet you could use an old metal weave loom (the kind we used to make potholders with) if you can't find the cake decorator form.

Glad she liked it!!

LuAnn

Re: Great Find On My Lake Superior Trip

Please post pics of what you come up with. Inspiration is a good thing.

LuAnn

Re: Vacation in the U.P.

LuAnn

Re: Calling All Junkers

Where about in Michigan were these "occasional sales". I've not heard of them before?

LuAnn

Re: Flat Grater Contest Entry

Kathy:
Lucky you having a thrift store that close to work and you're right it could be very dangerous.

LuAnn

Re: Corbel Shelf

Lani: This is truly charming. I'm going to the Utica Antique Market this weekend and hopefully I can find some of these. Good Job.

LuAnn

Re: Flat Grater Contest Entry

Kathy:

No I'm not hoarding them in Michigan. As a matter of fact this is the first flat one I've come across. I have about a dozen of the four sided stand up graters and even a round one. Sorry--but I bet you'll find one soon.

Christy:

Sorry it's warm where you're at. It's like that here--raining now for the first time in who knows how long--but that's a good thing.

Thanks for all the good comments. They are truly inspiring.

LuAnn

Re: Swap Meet Sunday

Georgia:

Great finds, especially the table. As for the flat grater--I have lots of the 4 sided ones and also a round one. Had to go look for a flat one--actually it was the JH who found it. Keep looking you'll find one.

There were a few ES and GS on Thurs, Fri and less on Saturday. Being the holiday weekend most people in Michigan high tail it up north for the final hurrah. Which is too bad since I'm the only one home.

Guess it's time to get to the grater. Look for the project soon!

LuAnn

Re: Flat Cheese Grater Contest

Do we post our projects for this contest in "Member Junk"?

I found a flat grater yesterday and have a simple idea for it. Will post soon-definetly before 9/15!!

Re: Domino Coasters

I kept the paper on the tile, arranged the tiles on the paper side like you want them, trace the outline, with an exacto knife make cuts in the tile until it comes loose, remove the paper and place the domino's on the sticky side. (Repeat for more). Hope this helps.

LuAnn
