Dictionary Place Cards

Some fun with paper.  I took some card stock I had lying around the house and some pages from a vintage dictionary that had seen better days and made some place cards out of them.

Test Tubing

A perfectly rusty crusty test tube holder and four vintage test tubes have been turned into a display for flowers.  I hand stamped a little birdie onto each test tube and made a tag that reads...

Cloche from 3 Vintage Glass Pieces

I used an old insulator, a vintage light cover with thick somewhat wavy glass and a crystal ashtray to create this display cloche.     I've also started my own store on Etsy recently and I...

Finally Finished Junk Swap Project

Well it took 4 days (I've decided that I am not a fan of having to wait on paint to dry!)  but I finally finished my junk swap project.  I'm happy how it turned out. I think this would...

Simple Thrift Store Decorating 2

I am addicted to Goodwill, I admit it. I find a lot of cool things there for my house and to squirrel away for future projects. There are three Goodwill stores that are within 5 minutes of my house...

Simple Thrift Store Decorating 1

I really like the look of light globes and with their big round shape and smaller opening I thought they would make a great flower vase.  The dilemma was how to get it to stand without falling...

Fuse-ion

I found this old cast iron fuse (switch?) in a discount booth at an antique mall.  I fell in love with the glass, rust and white coated cast iron and at $9 I couldn't pass it up.  I wanted...

Nesting Bird Server

I finally got around to doing another server (which of course includes a bird!).  For this one I once again used vintage orphaned dishes, including this sweet tea cup I found at a garage sale...

Bird Perch 2 Tiered Server

My second server; this one is two tiered and has a rod that goes through the plates.  It was a brass rod that I painted a glossy green with perm-enamel paint and glaze.  The base was a...

Halloween Frame Makeover

I found a wedding frame at Goodwill for $2.99. It had frosted glass on some of it that was really scuffed and scratched.  I painted over all of the frosted glass and some additional glass swirls...

Bird Totem

I was trying to think of a cute table display piece that was tall and included nests and birds; this is what I came up with.  Hope you like it!

Tiered Server

I have seen some wonderful tiered servers by other junkers made from vintage dishware and other items so I thought I would try to do one myself.  I used some orphaned vintage dishes, candle...

New Purpose for Garage Sale Find

I found this old, heavy, cast iron jar opener at a garage sale for only $2! I was so excited and snatched it up immediately.  I didn't want to change the perfectly aged opener too much so I...

Another Vintage Ad Frame

Here is the second frame I have created from the gifted craft blanks and the fee copy of a 60s Vogue I found.  The images are taken from a feature about a store where no children’s clothes...

45 LP Bird Centerpiece

Here is a record project for the challenge.  The record is used, though not as an overpowering focus (I am working on another one that really features the records :).  I found a 45 7" LP at...

Vintage Vogue Frame

Re: whatnots and thrift store finds ;)

Great finds, and a steal on the cabinet doors. Some ideas are to paint out the middle with chalkboard paint and leave the outer part as a really nice frame for it. Or you could attach some kind of hook down the middle of the narrower ones and turn them into coat racks. You could cut them down the middle (making 4 sides in each size) and make really nice boxes for storage. You could also use them as shelves. You could also attach baskets and brackets holding jars and turn one of them into an organizer. So many possibilities :)

Re: Camping Stools Turned Table

Beautiful! It looks like something you would pay a lot of money for at Pottery Barn :)

Re: Old white window frame

You can build a small shelf to go behind it and use this as the facing, you could even make it hinged and cover the opening with chicken wire. You can attach reclaimed wood into the opening and attach pot holders for terracotta pots and plant in them, or you can attach cut water bottles to plant in, or one/two small crates to hold kitchen or bathroom items. You could put mesh in the opening and hang on the wall as an earring holder.

Hope you have fun with what ever project you come up with, this is a great window frame!

What a wonderful storage solution!

Re: junk birdbath

Great assemblage of objects into something beautiful and functional! Wonderful work.

Re: "old School"

I also would love a set of these! I was thinking about lockers as a solution for my giant DVD collection (over 800, I may have a problem ;). I haven't been lucky enough to find a set for a reasonable price here. My plan though was to take them to an autobody shop and get them painted a cool color, but you can do that yourself too if you want to save a bit of $.

Re: French Bed Canopy

Beautiful way to create a canopy, very cool.

Re: vintage european military burlap chair

Wow, you really gave this chair a whole new life. A beautiful natural modern look, love the lettering on the pillow!

Darling creation!

Re: Umbrellas

Wonderful way to set your store apart, so very cute!

Re: How to Dress up a Dinner Party

This is so wonderful! I am crazy for different table setting/decorating ideas and this is one of the best I have seen in awhile. I never thought of cuffing a jar but the result is beautiful and interesting. The old tea strainer for the candle is genius as well. So, to summarize, L O V E.

Re: Garden Chairs

Very cute! I love the faucet in the first one, an adorable touch.

Re: What's your shabby need? A candle holder, a serving platter, or a jewerly organizer?!

It's amazing how much better so many thing look when they are no longer that ugly dark oaky brown. You did a wonderful job here. Great combo and I am a big fan of multifunctional! I would LOVE to be served some cookies on this... oatmeal chocolate chip perhaps?

Re: Junk Mama Birthday Gift for her Shabby Chic Daughter!

This is wonderful, she will be so thrilled! Love the choice of the pink.

Re: HAND ME A "MIRROR"!!!

Beautiful! I love this idea for turning hand mirrors into an even more elegant display. So very well done!

Re: Coffee, tea or Ivy?

What a great use of a coffee carafe! It truly does create a wonderful "ambiance."

Wonderful conversion, the planter color and shape are awesome!

Re: Candlelight in a Box

What a great project! I love the new purpose you gave to this fantastic old box. It would be a beautiful addition to any home.

Wonderful idea for old tools and parts!

Re: record challenge - butterflies are free and so are records

These are wonderful, though I couldn't imagine cutting all those. Do you happen to know how they cut them? Great inspiration!

Thank you Sue and thank you everyone for your supportive comments :)

Re: picture frame

I really like the reverse idea! A wonderful way to display so many cute shots in a small space.

Re: Making miracles

adorable creation!

Re: My "Pot Lady"

I like the "hair," so cute.

Re: My latest "creation"! Am I still having fun, or am I just losing it?

LOL, great idea and should bring some attention! When I was young we use to do similar things to our square hedges at Halloween... but we made them creepy on purpose ;) As for your new lady friend, I vote adorable :)

Re: LP album trays

These are great! I am new here and there are so many cool things like this that people on here have come up with. Wonderful idea, so cute and functional.
