Junky Chicken Coop

This henhouse was constructed using old fence boards and recycled cedar shakes from the neighbor's roofing job. As the roofing guys were removing the old shakes I asked where they took the old roofing. They told me that it went to a wood recycling place about 60 miles away and that it cost money to dump it. I told the guy he could dump it in my front pasture for free...suddenly craft projects loomed large as far as the eye could see! I'm still picking nails out of the dirt 5 years later but it was totally worth it. My round faucet handle collection hangs on the left while the little hen at the right was found buried in a flowerbed after I moved to the farm. The door, reclaimed from an old cabinet, drops down to allow access to eggs. I use the ladle to scoop eggs from the far reaches of the nests. I have to replace some of the shakes that were knocked off when a 100-year-old oak tree fell on it, and finish the purple trim, but the hens don't mind - they're still laying!

I am the Researcher with a new show for The History Channel called "American Pickers."

The show follows two real-life antique archaeologists as they travel around the country sifting through people's junk in the hopes of finding something interesting--and valuable!!

I came across your blog and read your profile. It sounds like you've inherited quite a treasure trove. If you're open to speaking more about it and the possibility of us filming at your property, please email me at Jhalpert@cineflix.com or give me a call at 212-627-2611 x 468.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,
