Most of you have probably seen this from earlier times but thought I'd post it again. Here is my rusty birdbath I welded from pieces picked up at the local scrap metal yard. The bowl is made from a disc from a plow and the base is the spacer that goes between the discs. The bird is made from an elbow and the head is a metal bearing ball. The wings are pieces of a saw from an old sawmill and they are all welded together.

csudderth writes: Hi Junkinhart. My welder is a Hobart Handler 140. I've been really happy with it but I really don't know a lot about the different brands. This was like the one my instructor had so I was used to it. She's had hers for several years and hasn't had any problems with it. It's easy to use. Let me know if you get one. We'll be waiting to see your welding projects.

BTW--I like your ID! Posted: 9:46 pm on August 27th
junkinhart writes: csudderth -- welding, my next endeavor.... i took welding in highschool (1 semester of shopclass was actually required) and loved it.... it's been recently i've been needing a welder, you can only do so much with wood!! I read you have a wire feed, what's the brand/model of welder that you have? I've been doing online searches, and there are just so many!! I don't want to do huge jobs, but I'm not sure what I am looking at!! Any hints you have on the type would be appreciated! Posted: 5:25 am on August 27th

csudderth writes: Good for you Texaswoman. Waiting til weather cools down is a good idea. My next project is a bottle tree. That would be a good beginning project--I think it will be pretty easy (famous last words--I frequently get in over my head)! Found a lot of ideas for bottle trees on bottletree.com Posted: 9:50 pm on August 25th
thetexaswoman writes: Love the welding! I have lessons lined up for when the weather here in Texas gets cooler. But lessons won't help me with the "clever"! Posted: 12:55 pm on August 25th
shabbychick writes: "Still" love it! I am in awe - welding seems kind of like extreme sports in the junk art world!!! (And, since I'm a bit of a chicken...I bought some JB Weld...and thought I'd try something small to start with. LOL)

csudderth writes: I got my first exposure to welding by taking a 2 day class from a local metal sculptor (check out his stuff at http://funksculp.com). We didn't get to do much of our own welding during the 2 day class so I went to the local vo-tech (oops, showing my age here, it is now a technology center) to take a class but they wanted me to learn to weld gates, etc. so I called a lady that has done some welding and she gave me lessons. It's really easy. I don't use those stick things. I use one that just feeds the wire by itself. I compare it to a glue gun on steroids! Actually, I'm probably less dangerous with a welder than I am with a hammer. Posted: 6:26 pm on August 24th
CottageElements writes: I'm with Kimberely on the welding! I want to learn how! Where did you pick it up? Sue, could you Junk Hunk do a section on it? Christy, your things are quite exceptional. And so imaginative. I especially love the little boy fishing on the river. We want to see more!

georgiamoon writes: Christy, you know that we all love seeing your fabulous projects....it's that welding thang. Most of us may not be brave enough for that kind of art...I know I am NOT. Give me some power tools and I am OK...give me fire and I am dangerous! Keep the great photos coming...I love them, georgia Posted: 2:13 pm on August 24th
