One year my parents gave us all gifts from a school auction.

Geo - I am blessed in having wonderful parents - they do very good most of the time and when they don't it is usually my Mom's way of joking us. I think it is a blessing to grow up very poor.

CreepinJen - It isn't a current picture but it still hangs in the same place. I would never get rid of it unless (if we ever move) someone offered a significant sum of money for me to part with it. My parent's are certainly to blame too...I got a steamer trunk for eighth grade graduation, my two sisters did as well... :) I know mine has a prominent place in the home as does my next sister. My youngest sister lives in Michigan and I don't see her often so I am not sure about her home. Posted: 5:26 pm on February 12th

I think my mother realized she had created a little junker, because she gave me an old steamer trunk on my 15th birthday. Thirty-five years later, and it still has a prominant place in my home. SeaGlassLady writes: Fantastic...not only does it serve as a blind, but it's educational too! I love old school items...globes, ink wells, school desks, coat racks, etc. I can imagine your parents' glee at being able to find such useful gifts for their children at a school auction!
