Fun purse with wooden button perch.
Made from a vintage canteen, miscellaneous hole and perch.
Vintage globe and polyed to death, but it still probably wont last more than a season or two.  But it is fun! The perch is a little tilted because I forgot to account for the curvature of the earth.  Whoops!
Old vintage lunch pail with holes on each end (though its not a duplex), and fork and spoon perches.
Vintage cracker box, misc. hole and perch.
Fun purse with wooden button perch.

Fun purse with wooden button perch.

I've been playing around with some ideas for unconventional birdhouses.  And since this is the day when we all start to wonder when spring will arrive, I thought it'd be a good time to post.  There are more I'll be posting as spring draws nearer.

They definitely would show better hanging from a tree limb (note to self: maybe I should hang a tree limb in my shop, I need to continually work on display skills), but right now we've got a lot of snow.  So, sorry the setting isn't great.

junkermidge writes: Glad you like these. They are fun and I've got a few more good ones that didn't photograph well so they'll be in the next round. I'm still experimenting.

As far as the hole goes, I thought I could just drill a hole, but it wasn't clean like when you drill wood. So I had to scrounge around for things to trim some of the holes. I'm not even sure what everything was. But one is a plumbing piece that goes at bottom of bathroom sink, and there was another piece from our plumbing box. I also used the round piece behind a doorknob (but the hole is a bit small). I'm still on the lookout for possibilities.

bridiemurphy writes: Fabulous! Can't believe I missed this when you first posted! They're brilliant. A friend of mine also made a birdhouse out of an old camera bag -- had an ideal spot for drilling the opening...

BUT, your globe is pure brilliance! I will shamelessly copy this idea...TODAY!

Thanks for the delightful ideas, Midge Posted: 9:19 am on February 3rd

MelHow writes: I am not entirely sure which is my favorite - either the canteen or the globe - (I have an over sized globe collection (as in lots of globes but some are small and some are large - I just border on having to many altogether)) Posted: 5:24 pm on February 2nd
