We often neglect the need to take care for our lips, but they are a prominent part of our face that is constantly exposed to wind, cold, heat and ageing. Yet, when we smile, talk and kiss we want them to be in their best. This isn't always easy, not if you are anything like me, anyways. I constantly pick and bite my lips when I am nervous and thus, having this divine lip balm handy at all times helps me balance things out.

Making your own lip balm is very easy - you don't need to be a chemist, nor you need to have a lab. All you need is a melting pot (for the purpose I used chocolate melting pot) and scales. All the other oils and products are fairly cheap and easy to find.

The lip balm was made during a workshop organised by Fantastic Services Group, the purpose was to make greener alternatives to commercial beauty products and cleaning detergents. The lip balm is an excellent gift for colleagues and female friends.

For Around 4 Lip Balms You’ll Need:

  • ·         2 gr beeswax;

  • ·         4 gr pure cold-pressed coconut oil;

  • ·         2 gr cold-pressed cocoa butter;

  • ·         4 gr cold-pressed almond oil;

  • ·         Mineral pigments of your choice;

  • ·         1 drop essential oil of your choice (I used orange);

Please note: It is important to get your quantities right!

Instructions:

  1. Measure your ingredients and prepare them for the hot melting pot.

  2. Melt the beeswax, coconut oil and almond oil.

  3. Add the mineral pigments and the essential oil.

  4. Stir the mixture well and remove from the heat.

  5. Transfer to a clean, dry and sterilized container of your choice.

  6. Let the lip balms cool and the beeswax to harden.

Voila! It will be ready to use in about 20-30 minutes.

The guys behind it are from Fantastic Services Group, so all the credit for these beautiful images goes to them. Besides the healthy lip balms, we also made green carpet and all-surface cleaners with non-toxic ingredients.
