A fitting frame for an exceptional find.
What a find! The original Building Permit and Certificate of Occupancy from 1940.
Fabricating the double-sided frame.
Bolts with wingnuts hold the two frames together. The frame pivots on a steel rod that is squeezed between the two segments. The rod fits into a hinge I fabricated from steel banding. The whole mess was eventually distressed and rusted.
My design allows for the frame to be removed from the wall mount.
Brass details on the corners give it an old Building Department look.
This side of the permit indicates all the wood and steel components used in the construction phase.
Flat against the wall.
June 17, 1940.
The permit indicates my lot number as: Lot 41.
A fitting frame for an exceptional find.

I found the original 1940 Building Permit and Certificate of Occupancy for my house on top of ductwork in the basement...I went nuts! When you're an architect you get excited over stuff like that. The Permit is double-sided so I had to come up with a way to display both sides at the same time. I fabricated a frame that pivots back and forth so you can view each side.
