This area is waiting for its redo and has been like this for too long, but I still like the mantle headboard idea, so thought Id share.  I plan to paint this room after the holidays, and get rid of the dated hand stenciled border from 1994.
Great carving on the wood.  A carpenter told me he thought it was birch, but all I know is that it was taken out of a Minneapolis home at least 20 years ago, before it was cool to leave things in place that are original to a home.
The side detailed carving.
The cheese cloth (material) that is celery green and is used as a backdrop hangs from a silver filigree pc. of junk that Ive had for 20 years.  I was a junker before I knew such a thing existed and was cool.  LOL  This is screwed into the wall and the fabric is draped around it.
Sorry this picture is blurry, but it shows the center junk pc. filigree, a bird that rests on it, as well as a German glass glitter star I have up for the holidays with some glass bead garland.
The photo is a color tinted professional photo I had taken of our daughter when she was 7.  The same time as the angel photo I posted with my tree post.  If you notice, the mirror, table, hand mirror, pearls, bottles, lamp, purse, gloves, hat, dress, etc. were all brought to the shoot by me and are mine.  I have used this photo for my jewelry business cards.  My Mom is the beautiful lady in the picture frame that did a double reflection in this photo.  I just love how this turned out.

About 18 years ago I bought this mantle for $100 at an antique store.  It had shabby white paint and I wasn't into that at the time, so stripped it to its natural state.  Nothing more has been done to it, but maybe one day it will get some TLC.  When we upgraded from a full to a queen size mattress the anitque metal bed frame I was using no longer would work, so I put the mantle to work as a headboard.

Did you make this?
After you make it, show it off to other members in the Member Junk area.

Just lovely just as it is....but I do know how those creative wheels spin. It will be fun to see what you do with it the next go round.

Georgia - we have lived with the builders white on the walls and this stupid stencil that I did while pregnant with my 14 year old. It is due for a paint job to start, new fabric, but probably will keep the headboard mantle when I redo. I am actually slowly redoing our whole house, as we haven't done anything to it, until I started last Spring. We also need new carpet in this room, etc. I am anxious to get going on it, but will wait until after the 1st of the year. We'll be gone for a week to a warmer climate yet in Dec., then with Christmas and New Years get togethers it would be too hard to get it done before 2009. Posted: 9:08 pm on December 5th

Thanks for letting us see what you are preparing to re-do. I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with this for a long time, but it is so much fun to come up with new ideas, can't wait, Georgia Posted: 5:39 pm on December 5th
Junk_Sophisticate writes: The carvings on the wood are beautiful! The nice thing about this piece is you can use it as a faux fireplace years down the road if you choose or for the real thing.

Great buy and I love how you've used it.
