Old Window Frame to Message Board

This window frame is from my early childhood home, that was torn down when my parents built new. Years later, I found it and knew instantly it was my next project. It had so much potential that I had a hard time deciding what to do, finally I landed on the idea of creating a message board and backpack rack for the kiddos. I replaced the glass with sheet metal painted with a several coats of chalkboard paint and simply white-washed the frame.

My heart has a soft spot for stars, so when I saw these Amish made star hooks,I was, well, hooked! The frame is kind of heavy, especially with the sheet metal, and then with the added weight of backpacks, I knew it was going to need to be secured very well. The frame is screwed directly into the wall and studs. It's has held up like a champ!

The kids especially love that they can write themselves reminders on there or even hang a note or work page with magnets! To this day it remains one of my favorite projects I've done!
