These chairs were a wedding present for my Grandparents back in the 1900's. I have 2 of them and a rocker. The seat originally was rope or twine. I purchased leather belts at thrift stores and raided my own closet to come up with this eclectic mix. They are just wrapped around, woven together and buckled on the bottom. I've seen it done with silk ties as well.
