A Junkin Pumpkin

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!  My daughter-in-law had a pumpkin contest at work and the winner got a day off.  She asked me to help her decorate a pumpkin and I found the decorated pumpkins that Sue & Ki did for Country Home several years ago and basically copied one of them.  Thanks to Sue & Ki she won first place and is getting a day off!  The hat is an old funnel, the ears are bed springs, the eyes are faucet handles, the nose is the spout from a coffee pot and the mouth is pieces of an old chain.  Basically a junkin pumpkin.

I'm so jealous--2 yards that you get to go to everyday. I get the same thrill going to the salvage yard that I do going to a great garage sale. I ALWAYS find something. It is amazing what people get rid of. One thing about it--you get VERY dirty. One day on the way home from scrounging I stopped by the store to pick up some sandwich stuff and the lady looked at me (I was pretty scruffy looking)and asked if I was paying with food stamps! It's a big family joke now. Has the lower price of metal affected how much you find now? I can't believe the difference in the price now and 6 months ago.

I have my own section to store stuff there since i go everyday and got to be good friends with the yard guys. Like the valve handle eyes also.. i have a few hundred of those suckers..i should ebay some. Oh the joy of a creative mind.

ultrajunk writes: Hello Christy..that is to funny that you do the same thing as me. There are 2 local scrap yards within 2 miles from my house and i go everyday. The big one stopped letting us in last summer and i had to do the same, bring stuff in and do a trade off..making sure i did not go over the weight i brought in, But now they are letting me back in again as i am there everyday..maybe it was all the pestering i did..lol... and the smaller yard across the street always lets you scrounge. it never gets boring cause who knows what will show up. rain sleet or snow. I just found a great vintage pinball machine that i want to make a coffee table with it. I will post a pic of it soon. Great to know there are others that get that excited about scrounging in a scrap yard.

MimiToria writes: Your junkin' pumpkin is awesome. I will have to create some next year and accumulate some of the items in the upcoming year. I already have a start, but now have some great new ideas of what to look for. Thanks for sharing!
And congrats to your DIL for winning and getting a day off. How cool is that?
