I knew the piece was just a diamond in the rough.  All it needed was a little TLC.
While Im not a big fan of forest green, the rest of it was amazing.
I chose not to go the paint stripping route, so I wet sanded the sides.  And a little green paint peaking through just added to the patina.
A little poly finished off the piece.
The hardware on the piece--way cool.
And the patina?  Wow!
Some fish plates and a vintage float add to the coastal theme.
So a vintage porthole turned out to be a unique table riser.  Whod of thunk it?

Out and about at the local occasional sales, I stumbled upon this vintage porthole.  I'd seem them before made out of brass, but this one intriqued me.  I liked the great hardware and patina, but the green paint, not so much.  But with a little tlc, I was able to turn it into a unique table rise.  Seafood anyone?

Andrea, so glad you like your scale. I have one similar, unfortunately it's very accurate (wish it read a little lighter). Haha. Jim, wonder why the site is picking on you? We love getting all your comments :) And all your great posts!
