Back to the Beach...

This is a shelf over the picture window in my dining room. I wanted a beach sign, so I scrounged around in the basement and found a broken oar.  Sometimes a treasure hunt is just a few steps away - ha ha!  Anyways...a little white washing, some stencils - and then sanding to add some weathering --- and its just right!
One of my vintage beach paintings (this is the oldest one I think).  Ive got quite a few - finding them from Ohio to Florida...theyre one of my favorite things to collect.
This is the other end of the shelf over my picture window - another painting, and a great old grate.
This is a little childs cabinet I got at Hunt & Gather last year (minus the doors and back - which were falling off anyway - theyve been saved for future use...), and Ive filled it with some fun vintage shell decor.  My favorite is the one in the bottom left compartment - a handpainted seashell with a speed boat zipping through the water.
Up close...too cool!  I found the painted seashell at a sale for $1.00 - what a great price for a sweet little piece of artwork.  And the snow globe doesnt have water in it anymore, but love the little skiers (thought of you Gretchen!).
This is the cutest summer purse...A little wooden boat with some great handpainted details.  Sweet, dont ya think??
And inside my conservatory - which literally changes like the weather...  All done up with vintage  figurines, pictures...etc...oh - and a little splash of junk!
The oval framed print is one of my favorite scenes.  The little kiddos are just precious!
Heres another view - and this one has a pic of my daughter, Kristen (when she was probably about two) - in her pink polka dot bikini (and being the collector/saver that I am) - the bikini is hanging just above....  And there are some kids playing in the sand.  Ahhh...to be a kid again!
Heres a close up of the beach babies - and a couple old compasses too - so nobody gets lost!
These buddies are hoping they catch the big one!  Im not going to let them know - its just a mirror underneath...theres not a drop of water to be found!
On the left is a beach ball I made - I used grout (and put it on thick) and literally stuck shells and seaglass into it - then while the grout was still wet, I sprinkled sand over it to make it look like they were buried.  (inside its a bowling ball - so just a bit heavy for a game of beach volleyball!).  The little sailor on the right is from the 70s, and the beach angel on the left was made by my adopted sister, Robin - love her! :)  Theyre sitting on a a vintage kid-sized adirondack chair that I got a few years ago at a garage sale.  It was in a pile (for $1.00) and I rescued it and glued/nailed it back together - it was a humpty-dumpty project! :)

Before summer buzzes right by (faster than a hummingbird), I thought I'd share photos of "some" of my summertime/beachy junk and vintage collectibles.  These things are just what's in my dining room...there's SO much more!  My guest room is decorated year-round with vintage beach paintings, etc...but the dining room is my seasonal "hot" spot - the junk is always a-changing!

Hope you enjoy the pics, and hope you're enjoying some wonderful summer weather (it's been just a "bit" hotter than normal in Ohio - but I'll live with it - I don't like to think of the alternative (and, yes...it starts with an "s").

Happy junking!

Kathy

P.S.  I know I've been MIA the past month or so...but my friends and I are getting ready for our first annual (occasional sale) "Vintage Market Day"...(as busy as bees) on Saturday, July 24th - so I'll share some pics of what we've been "collecting" - my basement is filling up fast - and my hubby is getting a little concerned...I keep telling him "it will all be gone on the 24th...promise!"  :)  SO, hoping/praying for lots of customers!

shabbychick writes: So glad you all enjoyed a visit to my little beach...it's always fun to get my beach junk out - and I try to hold onto the season till the end of September :)

I warned my daughter the bikini might become famous - ha ha, or infamous in junk decor!

Kenda - I've missed being here - but it is turning out to be a super busy summer, and I've missed so many member posts - so, I need to start getting caught up there too - lots of new members and great ideas... Hope all is well with you (a water park sounds like fun)!

Jim - OK - I'm busted...you're probably right - is that a bad thing??? It's called organized hoarding I think ;) (And share?? There's plenty to share a bit...)

Take care - and happy summertime!

Best wishes and prayers. I love the beachy theme. I have a stash, but just haven't had the energy to bring it out this year. Fun post!
