I get porcelain flowers from cheap thrift store finds
Then I chisel the flowers off and use for projects like on the top of this spoon holder.  They are practically free!
Here is the flower on the top of the spoon holder glued onto a brooch for the finishing touch.

This is a $2.00 thrift store spoon holder that has been painted, then broken china moasics have been added to the front and a free chipped off rose added to the top.  You can look at this project in detail along with more DIY tips and tricks at my blog http://thepolkadotcloset.blogspot.com/
