Shake Up Your Valentine!

A shaker four ways. I'm a multi-tasking shaker. Which way do you shake?
Are you wondering what to do with a drawer full of Mother of Pearl salt and pepper shakers? Well, maybe not...but I was. I came across a slew of these while cleaning out a storage room the other day. They're not really my taste in table decor anymore, but I thought they might make sweet little ditties for Valentine's Day.
This little shaker had its lid on tight. I popped it up, added an E, and filled it with little, fragrant flowers. Elizabeth scores again! I think it looks like a sweet little creature from outer space...kind of like a teenager. Ah, haha! Oh, and by the btw...if you don't like the alien look, flip it around as shown in the first image.
Some of the tops were hanging on by a thread...so I took them off. A wire cutter will help you remove the hardware from the edges.
Did I forget to mention that I had a bunch of salt spoons too? Imagine that! I used Gorilla Super Glue to adhere the spoon to the shaker top. This hides those pesky little holes. Ahhh, the perfect disguise!
The top of the spoon makes for a right fine place to attach a purdy little ribbon. Silver spacers from the craft store add the finishing touch for what comes next.
For a girlfriend perhaps? Now, mind you...i'm no Gretchen or like any of you other fine jewelers, but I can accomplish simple tasks like this necklace. Actually, I had to have my daughter thread the ribbon because I don't see so well. TeHe! The shaket itself acts as a nice package.
Something for the children...a shaker full of tokens to be used for extra special treats and requests. It holds 15 tokens. If I know my daughter (and I do), she'll be out of tokens about noon on Valentines Day.
I glued a fancy schmancy button to a token and then glued the pair to the shaker. If E can get this off the bottle she'll try to redeem this one too!
For your sha-weetie. A little shaker full of three big wishes that you get to make a reality. I call this "Genie is Out of the Shaker, or perhaps "Wishful Thinking".
I had an ab fab and very old New York Ledger and this romance banner was part of the tag line. Now you don't see that included on the front page anymore! I cut it out and glued it on with good old Elmer's.
About the three wishes. I cut out sections of the very same New York Ledger, put a wish that I was willing to grant on each of the three sections, rolled 'em up, tied them with vintage string, and put them in the shaker. Did you think I would allow my sweetie to wish for just anything? I think not. The ladies always call the shots...right. I just may have gotten myself in a heap of trouble with that remark!

There is no better day than Valentine's Day to give something handmade to those you love. You know what they say....sometimes the best things come in small packages.

Sounds like we have a par-tay! Only a parting gift? Wow, you're easy! Man, maybe if everyone comes I can clean out my garage enough to park my car. Wouldn't that be something!
Take care,

Thanks so much for your comments. Just wanted to hop on and address the S & P shakers and the treasure hunt! A treasure hunt at my house? What fun! I'm sure you would all find things that even I didn't know I had. One stipulation, though...you have to clean and organize while you're here! Ah, hahaha. Did the number of willing participants just go down? I purchased these s&ps new about 15-20 years ago. I can't remember where I purchased them, but Lani pointed out that they look like they came from a beach resort. I suspect she might be right. Ya know, a little memory from the family vaca. Any hoo, my point is that if we search through our own personal junk room, junk drawer, and garage stashes we are all highly likely to find something ripe for re-purpose or upcycling. For this idea you can look to ceramic, glass, or silver shakers and come up with your own twist on a Valentine's Day surprise that comes in a small package! Happy Valentine's Day!
Be Well,
Sue
