I helped my sister-in-law with the sad task of clearing out her deceased mother’s home and ended up with a carload of treasures, including this old telephone (circa 1936, according to an Internet search).  When I got home with it, my husband discovered that the telephone actually works!  I hadn’t noticed that it had a newer phone clip on the hookup wire.  We plugged the phone into a jack, got a dial tone, and successfully placed a call.  Of course, the audio isn’t up to today’s high-quality standards and using a rotary dial takes forever, but who cares?  I wanted the phone simply for its vintage look and having it in operating order was an unexpected bonus.  Just remember to speak loudly if you call.

I love the old rotary phones. I bought one that worked off of ebay and enjoyed it so much. A friend came one day and saw it. The next time she visited me she had a gift for me...the replica from Pottery Barn. So, I'm lucky to have
the original and then a modern up to date also. I love that it is sitting on top of a doiley. Posted: 6:16 pm on December 11th

Yep, my age is showing, for sure, but that's okay--at least I'm still "a-grinnin'." Thanks, everyone, for the great comments. I absolutely LOVE this site and all you super-nice junkers! suewannabeinkc writes: WOW - I love the nostalgia of this! Aren't you lucky to get one that works too. If you'll have any chldren in the house - what fun it will be to show them how to "dial" the phone! (While you're at it, you could show how to "roll" up the car window too. :-) Today's kids don't know what they're missing!) Posted: 1:59 pm on December 9th
