Something to sing about

After quite a time gap of junk making, I'm back at my shop working and singing away.  I always sing while I work (I try to tone it down during the daytime to spare my landlord who is right next me -- I DO want to stay on his good side!).  But now I have even more to sing about as I temporarily have some much needed space.  So this week I fill be a junk-making fool.  And I'm kicking things off with a bunch of these Christmas cones.

This is definitely not a new idea, but I didn't notice them posted here (yet) so I thought I'd share.  I have some vintage hymnals I'm dismantling for their paper so I used one of the Christmas songs from that, coned it up, added some greens I snipped from my yard, and added a little junk.  I will always be more of a "have to reinvent the wheel" kind of junker, but I needed something festive, easy, and "small" for the Christmas season and this seems to fit the bill.

I'm planning to make quite a few of these.  They could be hung on the back of a chair, from a doorknob, or on a door, mantle, or stairrail.  I will probably try different combos of junk.  The word piece kind of got lost against the music so I will probably switch to blackboard tags -- it just occurred to me that my husband has giant rings of old laminate samples, I think they'd be much happier painted black.

JanieBV writes: I love this idea. I think I might make a bunch to hang on our back fence. I've got tons of music and we have our own greenery in the back that I can cut. I think I might get the music laminated so that it holds up to our beautiful Ohio winters (hah) and I can reuse them next year. Beautiful and simple idea! Thanks for sharing. shabbychick writes: Midge - such a cute idea. And, I love your idea of painting the laminate samples...I've got some of those - and you're right, they'd probably be so happy being painted and becoming a functional piece of decoration! (Do we hear junk voices in our heads, or what?? - You notice I said "we", not makes me feel better!! ha ha)

Thanks for sharing!

I think your little cones look fantastic. I’ve always thought that a larger version filled with greens would look great hanging on a picket fence with garlands draped in between.

I adore these little cones....I usually make them in all different sizes for holding gifts, but I love your idea with the greens. Well done!
Happy day.

PS, You'll be happy to know that power tools are the only thing on my Christmas and Dec. b-day list this year. Now I just need some lessons...too bad you live so far away :( Posted: 8:15 pm on November 22nd
