Reclaimed box clocks
November 19th, 2009 in member junk
These lightweight & easy to make clocks are made from heavyweight chipboard boxes that were used by my local school system to transport VHS tapes between the libraries. When they started phasing out VHS tapes the boxes became obsolete and they were going to throw them away, enter the Junk Avenger! I liberated many, many computer boxes FULL of these with no idea what I was going to do with them. After racking my brain I finally had a stroke of brilliance, clocks!
Using copyright free vintage poster art from the late 19th and very early 20th century I decoupaged the images to the front (well technically these are the back of the VHS cases) & sealed them with some good ol' Duraclear, then it was just a matter of drilling holes for the clock mechanism (American Science & Surplus again) and for the hanging wire. I then used tiny mirrors and plastic rhinestones to accent where ever the mood struck.
Making clocks is so much fun (I love functional original art/craft) and so easy, pretty much everything turns into a clock in my head, kinda' like that old Tootsie Roll commercial.
The world looks mighty good to me,
'Cause funky clocks are all I see
Whatever it is I think I see
Becomes a funky clock to me!
