Hatchery pipe plant stand

Kicking around an old DNR fish hatchery pond looking for morels, I almost stumbled over this corrugated old pipe--the first of such I had ever seen. Some of the other pipe there was actually made of wood surrounded by tar paper and wire; so that must have gone back almost to the turn of the century. Sadly, that pipe had all collapsed. Fortunately, this iron piece was short enough to lift and carry to the car. All I needed to do to make the stand was to cut the wood block for the base. Anyone else ever seen corrugated pipe like this?
