Since everyone's rite of passage is the headboard/bench project, thought I'd share mine.  Found this neat old headboard/footboard/rails combo at a local thrift store.  Back is the headboard, sides/arms are the footboard, one of the siderails made the front, scrap wood was used for the seat, and the center ornamentation from the footboard became the lower front decorative piece (we tried not to waste anything!).  I've enjoyed this bench for awhile now, thinking of giving it a paint job to change the look a bit....
