Shabby Chic Bottle Tree as is currently displayed in our backyard

A few years ago, while we were visting my sister in the south, while driving in North Carolina we came across a bottle tree.  I was completely taken with the folklore and fell in love.  Once we got home my hubby welding together rebar in the shape of a tree, and after much practice perfected where the tree limbs should go.  After a few years of trying the the wine bottle display, it finally it me that I could paint the tree white and display my favorite collection of clear bottles...and the Shabby Chic Tree was born!

I looked for info on the folklore - here's a website I found: http://www.bottletree.net/Trees.htm (some pics and a little history).

P.S. Sue, I think you need a little bottle tree in your Falloween entryway!

italianpeasant writes: KIMBERLY, i'm not sure if the folk lore is the same as with a bottle tree, but the one i know is that if you hang bottles or canning jars from trees it keeps away evil spirits :)now the folk arty way of doing this is to wrap wire around the neck of the bottle or jar & embellish with crystals & beads & hang it, i used to do this but i put a votive in the jar; looked great at night, but we cut the tree down due to disease, not because it burned down!!!!!!!
