From Card Table to Wall Art

For the last 2-1/2 years I dreamed of artwork for my foyer with a 17 high ceiling.  No extra funds puts a slight damper on those dreams.
Lo and behold a friendly person in my community left a pile of vintage card tables on the side of the road.  Glad the city is watching out for me.
Once this black and white plaid beauty was spotted in the pile I knew where it was headed.  There would be an immediate change in duties for you, Mr. Table
And it goes quite well against my new coat of paint, dont you think?
My new wall art...just hangin.
And best of all, I could cut out the middleman.  No extra costs involved.

See how to not only fill up wall space, but also add a bit of classic black and white art to your home.  All for the price of nothing.

I LOVE the plaid one on your wall!! It looks great with your background and trim colors and calls attention to itself as an art piece.
Thanks for sharing this!!

Junk_Sophisticate writes: Thank you everyone. I am surprised by the great amount of positive feedback I've received on this post. Here, my blog and from guests at a recent party I held. You are all too kind.

Jim - Out of the stack of eight I found, there are probably five that have simple graphics that may be worthy of replicating. The cardboard tops are in bad shape on some of them.

Lani - That would be so cool if some had metal tops, however, they are all cardboard. Drats!

Janis - The party was last Saturday and it was fabulous! I was busy preparing up until the last moment...well even during the party. Approximately 40 people were there and unfortunately heavy rains kept us all inside. We still had a great time though. Thank you for asking. :)

I just want to know if any are metal? Or are they all cardboard? If any were metal, they'd be great magnet boards dontcha think? What a find! Awesome!

Candy, this is the coolest idea I’ve ever seen for a table top. From what I can see of the rest you picked the best design to hang…perfect colors. I really like the look of plaid, it has such a soothing 1950’s look. I find card tables quite often at flea markets but none, so far, have had the great printed top like yours. Do any of the other tops have such great graphics?

DownHomeDIY writes: Your ears should be burning b/c I have been talking about you and your awesome repurpose. I went to a furniture presentation today and made them check it out on the website. I had found a piece of fabric there that looked just like this and of course had to spread some Candy love.
Thanks for sharing! We are green with envy on your find in NC!

bluebucket writes: Your table looks great on the wall! Recently I bought a vintage card table with the scene of a ship on it for $3 with the idea of hanging it on the wall (it's just not there yet). Great post.

Junk_Sophisticate writes: Thank you everyone! I was thrilled to find the tables however I must say I had a "Elizabeth...I'm coming to join ya" moment when my eyes caught the black and white plaid one! I seriously knew right away what I wanted it for.

Kathy - Not sure what I'll be doing with the rest of them -some of the vintage designs are cool. Unfortunately most of the tops are warped or don't seem very sturdy in their current condition. It may be kind of cool to replicate the designs (ala JunkArchitect) on plywood though or other thin board because the legs are still wonderful.

Ya'll who are interested are all invited to come trolling with me anytime! But most times I find my curbside offerings when I least expect it!
Happiness to all!
