Yep - a grizzly bear in the heart of Ohio...welcoming anxious junkers to the Springfield Extravaganza - gotta love it. I heard someone say this guy was selling for $4,000.00 (I didn't see him later in the day...so, either someone paid up...or he escaped back to the woods he came from...).
Just a few of the beautiful pieces of furniture we had for sale - the chair is covered in bits and pieces of lace and vintage buttons...(yep - it sold!). And notice the silver trays - they were a big seller for us too!
As we set up for the show, we kept opening up box after box - it was like Christmas - but it made for a long day - finishing at close to midnight...whew!
Button bracelets and girlie stuff!
The diner dishes were a hit too - we sold about half of them...
On the right is a table we displayed as the "hardware department" with some pretties scattered here and there. And there's my "message central" window (it sold!).
More metal and dishware (sold)!
An old table top - became a great place to hang vintage magazine ads - made some magnets out of knobs, keys, vintage jewelry, and junk!
A big old clay pot spray painted with chalkboard paint - for advertising (Amy's husband Ron was selling smaller versions at Oronoco...and I liked the idea!).
A great typewriter (just for looks -not big on speed), and a wire cloche.
Terri's vintage button jewelry - displayed on an antique lace blouse.
I was recruiting AND selling! (a junking multi-tasker) - met lots of junkers (and hopefully new members).

OK - here's the first of a couple posts covering our weekend at the Springfield Extravaganza. We've been selling there for about 5 years and have had good shows (and a few not so good shows...) - this particular weekend was a GREAT show for us! The weather was as beautiful as it gets in Ohio in September - high 70s and sunny, and with over 2000 vendors to entice customers with unique finds, as well as great bargains - the fairground was packed with record crowds - and for us one of our best selling weekends as well.
The pictures here show some of the things we were selling, and I can say that the big sellers for us were silver platters, the wire cloches (we're gonna make more for the next show!), small pieces of furniture, and jewelry. We had set up a table with odds and ends of hardware, knobs, fixtures, architectural stuff, etc., that were "leftovers" from projects that we wanted to "liquidate" - and that all sold like crazy.
We made some new friends (pictures coming...), visited with some of our old friends - and entertained passersby (that's what we do - ha ha). It was huge fun and definitely an encouragement in the current economy. People are definitely out there buying to decorate, reuse and repurpose - and as we all know...vintage is definitely "in"!
So, that's it in a nutshell (we are in the Buckeye state)... I'll also be posting on the the sights at Springfield, and then another one on project pieces. Sorry, Sue - I've got so many pictures! ;)
The next Extravaganza is the third weekend of May 2010 - and we'll be there - selling (and doing a little buying when we have time) - so hope to see some more new JUNKMARKET Style faces!!
Take care! Kathy

Oh, the grizzly? Bet no one argues with him about a price he might offer----"uh, SURE you can have it for that lower price" !! Junk Hunk, love it!

Gretchen - we have definitely made the transition into more neutral tones, and more silver/metal pieces - and everybody's liking it (and buying it). It seems like a more aged look - and can fit in with any color someone decorates with.
Sue - just call me "pics-r-us" - I've definitely got 'em!! :)
Take care, Kathy

Alice - I checked your blog - love the angels! :)
Candy, ol buddy ol pal - we definitely need to talk!!
texasjunkermom - I'm not sure about the cloche... I looked at some on ebay (great place to get an idea on prices - saw an antique one (16" tall) starting to bid at $49 - and $20 for shipping...) so that price might be a little high if it's a new one??? - anybody else know??
Lani - I'm sure if the Grizzly would have gone shopping - he'd get be able to deal on some great prices!! And be able to carry heavy furniture too...a junk hunk!! :) (Lani - I'm all for a get-together!!)
Janis - thanks about the pic - I thought I needed something new - it may change again - not sure...haha!
Have a great week!! (and stay tuned for Part II)
