Here's my entry for the junk potluck competition - add some fresh fruit - and "voila" - a vintage serving dish! (I won 2nd place!!!)
Here are the pieces and parts - just a lamp base, an old light fixture and a finial to put it all together. (This is one of those VERY simple Monday kind of things!!)
Just a finial and a washer - and it's a match made in junk heaven!
Ta-da!! Then, it had to be packed away to make the trek to Minnesota (and it survived - woo hoo...a miracle considering the way we packed, right Candy???)
Nobody had to tell us it was time to eat - with all that "flea-ing" we were starving. You kind of lose track of time and "forget" to eat when you're surrounded with so much "junk"! But Amy & Ron served up this quirky reminder!!
The table is set - this handy-dandy lunch box in the front was brought all the way from Ohio by my junking buddy, Candy - and it was put to work at the head of the table!
And these little slices of heaven (zucchini bars)...were brought to us by none other than our own Tomboy Tool girl...Cheryl - they were a big hit!!
Here's Cheryl and her hubby working their junk magic!
Not positive where this piece came from, but I think it may have been "found" in Sue's garage - ha ha - we had a bit of fun "finding" serving dishes AND camping equipment...kind of a spur of the moment thing! (memories.....)
And here's Candy - ever the camera bug and "tweeter" - she didn't miss a thing! And, I think I spy a Pfarkel sister...
This is the first place winner - a grill repurposed into a fab serving table - from the Kountry Junker girls... And, in the front of the picture - an old wash tub cleaned up as a serving stand for a wonderful rice dish...(by the Pfarkel sisters).
Get that food line moving (beware - hungry junkers lining up)...a wonderful time was had by ALL!!
Here's my entry for the junk potluck competition - add some fresh fruit - and "voila" - a vintage serving dish! (I won 2nd place!!!)
Well, Janis (ha ha - I remembered you wanted to see this) - here's my vintage serving dish that traveled from the great state of Ohio all the way to the great state of Minnesota last month. This was my entry in Amy's first ever junk potluck at her blog party at Oronoco.
It was the best junk potluck - what a perfect way to end our day of fleamarketing! There was some great junk used, awesome food served, and friends and fun galore!
Enjoy the pictures and if you haven't looked at it already, be sure to check out Amy's blog for more pictures and commentary about this junk-tastic event!! http://junkologie.blogspot.com/2009/08/yummy-junk-potluck-at-junkologie-blog.html and more pictures AND the winners... http://junkologie.blogspot.com/2009/09/winners-of-junkologie-junk-potluck-2009.html
Now for my speech (oh, you asked for a speech didn't you???) I would just like to congratulate the first place winners - the Kountry Junkers - great job!!! And now for the "thank yous" --- I would especially like to thank the "junk academy" (aka Amy & Sue) for their thoughtful consideration in giving me this award - AND I would also like to dedicate it to all the members/friends here at JUNKMARKET Style - who provide neverending support to each other and constantly amaze us all with their creative uses of things most people would throw away...and I'd also like to thank my husband for being so "patient" with my "junking issues" (wink wink), etc., etc....hey, wait it's just like on TV...that darned music is starting to drown me out....!
OK, I'm ready for my close up! (sorry - having way too much fun with this!!)
Now...what am I gonna come up with for next year???? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The junk potluck was a huge success (and so was the blog party) - thanks and congrats to Amy & Co. for all their hard work! And thanks for bringing us all together - everytime I look at the pics...there's a new memory...
Just a note...In your search for lamp bases, be sure to pick something that will hold up to the weight of your light fixture - you don't want it to be top heavy. These two pieces were surprisingly well balanced in weight and size. And, if a finial won't hold it together...I bet a little Gorilla Glue would do the trick, and then place something decorative over the hole to cover it up.

I'd also like to add that not only did you make this fabulous piece that held our healthy goodies that day...you also donated it to a breast cancer charity event held by JMS member(s) after the blog party. Lovely. Lovely.
Wonderful acceptance speech, my friend! I see many more in your future...
