wood mosaic tabletop
August 24th, 2009 in member junkmy partner made this tabletop from pieces and scraps of wood that he glued together to create this random pattern. he used one of those old bar type tables that have the metal pedestal base. i love the colors he used. the table is sealed with wax. it is approximately 36" in diameter and works great in a small eating area of a kitchen - as a side table on the patio.
these table were destined for the scrap heap - the original formica had peeled and the old particle board underneath had warped and was flaking - rod replaced the top with a new 3/4" plywood base and then glued the pieces he had cut to the top.
he has used the idea for larger scale projects too. and we have also mixed wood pieces with found objects like interesting rocks, scraps of metal with great patina etc.
