Vintage 78 Record Clock

Here are the first of my two projects I created for the Record Contributor's Challenge: A clock made from a old 78 and an up-cycled clock mechanism & hands.
Sue sent us a variety of records (45's, LP's & 78's) and for this project I went right to the 78 because they are smaller than an LP and usually a little thicker/heavier. I also liked this one's label.
I up-cycled a clock mechanism I pulled from a garage sale clock and spray painted the hands silver and the second hand black so the would both pop off the red label.
The clock backs usually have a hanger built in but I wanted this one to be a bit more special so I crafted a little stand out of an old cast iron receipt holder and marching band music holder.
Here’s a shot of some of the recent garage sale clocks. Quick Tip: I always carry an extra AA battery when I go junkin’ so I can test the clocks I find and make sure they work when I get them back to my lab.

Clocks are a simple project to make and the more unique the better!

It looks so cool mounted on the stand that it should be the trophy that’s given away at one of the “music awards”.

My favorite Aunt gave me her 78 record collection many years ago. I have always wanted to do something special with them. Guess I may have to do a similar project with my favorite 78. The only problem is, I LOVE both songs on the 78 (Side one: "Poco Loco in the Coco" - a silly little song that I still find myself singing; Side two: "If I Knew You Were Coming (I'd a Baked a Cake)").
Good suggestion about bringing a AA battery with you on your hunts. Super idea.
Love your little stand for your clock. Adds much to the piece. gailmarie
