Junky Door Display Unit
May 20th, 2009 in member junkI am a packrat in that I rescue things people are tossing that seem like they could be used for something else and move them around with me for years until I figure out what to do with them (a practice which is costly in space and moving expenses, yet when I figure it out, it seems SO worth it in the end!). This door was tossed out onto a trash pile in Georgia and I moved it around with me for over four years in Florida until this past December, when I cleaned it up, painted a design with glass paint on the three window panes (which remained intact through all of its dumpings and moves), added two sets of shelves from reclaimed wood from other projects using metal brackets that I created by cutting off metal pieces from a discarded cast iron gate. Then I taped off the windows and spray painted the whole thing with gusto in the brightest apple red I could find. Talk about using your cherry red nail polish when you want to look hot and sexy, ladies -- this door was a Cinderella turned into a princess! She now resides in my house leaning against the non-opening half of my patio door, greeting everyone who comes into my home and displaying some of my favorite things. I'm so glad I was able to give her this "extreme makeover."
