Who needs a scarecrow when you've got a Gardening Angel?

Okay, so I've got a thing for angels.  This is my first full size one, and it's made for hanging out in a garden.  I didn't have a good place to display it (sorry) so I posed it against my shop wall, but I included straps in the design so it could be attached to a wooden stake in the ground.

This angel is made from an old shovel and an old net frame of some sort.  I attached them together and added some upside down garden picket fencing.  Usually I don't include arms on my angels, but this one has arms from two old broken hoes so it has the option of holding a basket of garden goodies.

I am looking for an angel for my garden and first though I need to make a path in the garden and right now have rototilled the area and have block out the path, but don't know what material to use to put down over the soil, I need something something smooth, any suggestions?
